The Opportunity


Reporting to the Assistant Director of Operations within the Office of Professional and Workforce Development (OPWD), the Education/Training Spec II serves as the University of Florida’s Training, Research, and Education for Environmental Occupations (UF TREEO) Center’s coordinator for Solid & Hazardous Waste courses. This position is responsible for working with industry experts to deliver contract, open enrollment, and online training offerings. In addition, this position oversees the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) Solid Waste contract administration, course approvals, and database and is responsible for refreshing and developing new course offerings.

The essential functions of this position are as follows:

Program Management:

  • Collaborate with instructors and content experts to design, develop, and update course manuals, materials, and presentations.
  • Create and manage program budgets, identify instructors, schedule classes, arrange logistics, and prepare course materials for online, open enrollment, and contract courses.
  • Contact and engage with current and prospective clients to identify specific training requirements to include topics, instructor, location, and dates. Prepare and submit program proposals for contract training. 
  • Actively monitor student enrollments, completions, and training transcripts for online, open enrollment, and contract courses.
  • Communicate continuing education training requirements to students.
  • Manage program closeouts to include verification of revenue and expenses, invoicing clients, and instructor payments.

Contract and Database Management:

  • Schedules Solid Waste course contracts for the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP). Creates and manages program budgets and fliers, identifies instructors, schedules courses, arranges logistics, and prepares course materials.
  • Manages the FDEP Solid Waste Section database for Operators & Spotters.  This includes updating student transcripts, course information, and recording course completions.
  • Receives course or event submissions from outside providers, reviews course or event submissions for completeness, and forwards the course or event submissions to the FDEP section contact for review, monthly.  Updates the database when FDEP approves the courses or events. Communicates the FDEP decision to the outside providers.
  • Prepares bi-annual report to FDEP to include total training completions and training by track.

Oversight of Course Development and Management:

  • Works with subject matter experts to refresh current offerings, identify and develop new offerings based on industry needs.
  • Review course content for accuracy, accessibility, and functionality.
  • Review course evaluations to help improve the course and provide feedback to the instructors.
  • Answers student inquiries on registration or requirements to fill their respective training gaps.

Expected Salary:

$55,000 - $60,000

Full-time TEAMS employees will accrue vacation leave at a rate of 6.769 hours biweekly/22 days annually and sick leave at a rate of 4 hours biweekly/13 days annually. In addition, employees are eligible for ten paid holidays each year.

Minimum Requirements:

Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area and four years of relevant experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience coordinating training courses. 
  • Familiarity with FDEP regulations and continuing education requirements. 
  • Experience working in Canvas.
  • Proficiency in MS Office.
