Position Summary

The University of Southern Indiana is accepting applications for Software Developer/Analyst.

The Software Developer/Analyst is responsible for developing, maintaining, and securing in-house developed applications, and develops interfaces to integrate commercial applications used within USI. This person is primarily self-directed, making decisions regarding application design, effectiveness, and security. Administration of applications is generally provided by the Applications Administrator, allowing for segmentation of duties. The Software Developer/Analyst works with end users in business areas to understand their needs and solve their issues. This person also serves as a backup for other software developer/analysts supporting multiple departments and applications, assists with complex projects and issues as they arise, and with training of new software developer/analysts.

Duties/Responsibilities 

  • Banner Finance module support as well as In-House Applications (Third-Party integrations, PL/SQL Reports, etc.).
  • Develop or modify complex software programs from specifications.
  • Perform business requirements gathering and technical design.
  • Build testing strategies and plans based on project requirements and system design.
  • Implement automated and manual test procedures to meet or exceed design standards and performance standards.
  • Ensure designs and implementations are secure and data handling is in accordance with USI standards.
  • Write documentation related to development work and share ideas with the team.
  • Perform testing, debugging, upgrades and patches of in-house developed and purchased software solutions.
  • Perform troubleshooting code and identifying resolution of program errors or bugs.
  • Enhance the development process by identifying, proposing, and implementing improvements.

Required Knowledge and Skills

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, computer information systems or related field and a minimum of three years’ related experience. Or an Associates degree in computer science (preferred), computer information systems or related field, and five years’ related experience.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently using sound judgment in technical knowledge and problem solving.
  • Attention to detail and timely follow-up skills.
  • Strong organizational and communication skills required and the ability to work effectively and respectfully within a diverse environment.
  • Proficiency with database programming with either Oracle PL/SQL or mySQL.
  • Proficiency with at least one modern programming language such as PHP or Python or similar scripting language.
  • Demonstrated experience with Linux at a user level and shell scripting.
  • Experience in multiple technologies such as Banner ERP, XML, JSON, web development, Eclipse, IntelliJ, GIT, web APIs, HTML5, CSS, Groovy, Grails, UNIX/LINUX, or C.
