Job Summary
The Social Work Supervisor 2 (LCSW) supervises clinical and support staff providing mental health services and provides assistance to the Program Manager in the development, implementation, and evaluation of program policies and procedures. Also provides clinical social work evaluations, individual and group counseling, monitoring of medication side effects under the direction of a Psychiatrist, case management, crisis intervention, documentation, consultation, training, education and referral. Supervises approximately eight LCSW and Social Worker staff members.

Minimum Qualifications

  • CA Clinical Social Worker License (LCSW), active and unrestricted
  • Master's Degree from an accredited School of Social Work
  • Clinical work experience in a social service or healthcare setting (such as case management or social worker)
  • Knowledge of management theory and principles; knowledge of employee coaching and counseling techniques and principles of progressive discipline; Knowledge of and ability to apply Collective Bargaining and Affirmative Action principles
  • Knowledge of basic staffing and scheduling principles and the ability to accurately identify departmental needs and staff accordingly, with skill and ability to determine staff assignments based on assessment of work to be completed, staff skills and competency, and acuity
  • Knowledge of supervisory, orientation and training dynamics
  • Proven ability to manage conflict
  • Experience taking psychosocial history and case management evaluations, including interview techniques, suicide assessments, and forensic designations
  • Knowledge and skills in the areas of individual, group, and family therapy
  • Knowledge of community resources
  • Demonstrated awareness of, and sensitivity to, dealings with cultural and socioeconomic diversity
  • Knowledge of child, elder abuse, and domestic violence reporting requirements, and other significant legislation and laws regulating social work

Preferred Qualifications
  • Social Work experience in a jail or correctional setting highly preferred
  • Knowledge of criminal justice system, state hospital system, forensic mental health networks, Probation, Parole, and Department of Corrections highly preferred

Department Description
Adult Correctional Mental Health (ACMH) is a satellite contract program of the Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences. The program provides mental health services to inmates incarcerated inside the two Sacramento County jails located in downtown Sacramento and in Elk Grove and Jail Based Competency Treatment (JBCT) and Early Access and Stabilization Services (EASS) to inmates found Incompetent to stand trial. The JBCT and EASS programs serve inmates charged with felony crimes and deemed incompetent to stand trial by the court (PC 1370).

Physical Demands and Work Environment
Ability to work in a highly stressful jail custody setting, with incarcerated inmates which may present hazardous conditions, including working in a potentially crowded, malodorous, and noisy environment, of a highly restrictive and confining nature. Must be in good physical health, hear and speak well. Willingness to work under an institutional 'No Hostage Policy.' Ability to pass and maintain the Sacramento Sheriff Department's Security Clearance. Willingness and ability to work flexible hours, including holidays and weekends, as scheduled and assigned.
Special Requirements
  • This position is a critical position and subject to a background check and drug screen. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of background investigation including criminal history, identity checks and drug screen.
  • As a condition of employment, you will be required to comply with the University of California Policy on Vaccination Programs , as may be amended or revised from time to time. Federal, state, or local public health directives may impose additional requirements.
