The University of Miami is currently seeking Supervisor, Social Services to work at Sylvester Cancer Center (SCCC).The incumbent acts as a patient advocate/care coordinator to hospital clients. Additionally, the Supervisor, Social Services provides expertise for enhancing the quality of patient management, satisfaction, continuity of care and timely cost-effective practices. He/She monitors the daily operations of the floor social workers and manages the follow-up of complex patients. Moreover, the incumbent acts as a resources foe the social workers as needed, able to solve communication and patient related needs as it relates to discharge planning and care coordination with physicians, insurance companies and post-acute care providers. The Supervisor, Social Services performs care coordination and discharge planning functions and collaborates with the interdisciplinary staff internal and external to the organization.

CORE JOB FUNCTIONS                                                                                                          

  • Assists the social workers when experiencing family/physician issues and attempt to resolve such issues related to the patient’s continuum of care.

  • Aids the manager of social services with physician, patient and family issues, multidisciplinary treatment team, Managed Care plans, and when indicated, legal representative(s).

  • Facilitates delivery of clinical and community services to patients and families through effective utilization of available resources.

  • Ensures the appropriateness and cost effectiveness of treatment.

  • Facilitates decision making in establishing an evaluation program, an interdisciplinary treatment plan, and an assessment of the patient's status and need for provision of continuing care.

  • Works in collaboration and continuous partnership with clinic, hospital, physicians, leadership, community resources and staff to promote timely access to appropriate care of a patient.

  • Establishes and continuously assesses the effectiveness of the internal controls within the unit and compliance with University policies and procedures. 

  • Ensures employees are trained on controls within the function and on University policy and procedures.

CORE QUALIFICATIONS                                                                                                         

Education:         

Master's degree in relevant field

Certification and Licensing:

Social Work Licensure

                        

Experience:

Minimum 3 years of relevant experience

Knowledge, Skills and Attitudes:

  • Ability to direct, manage, implement, and evaluate department operations.

  • Ability to establish department goals and objectives that support the strategic plan.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Knowledge of business and management principles.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.
