General Notes  

The candidate will primarily focus on conducting research to reduce school-based violence, collaborating with community organizations to assess interventions targeting youth violence and involvement in the criminal legal system. The role involves various research tasks, skill development, and mentoring to prepare the candidate for competitive PhD programs in social science. This is a one-year position with the potential for renewal based on performance and funding availability. Start date is as early as June 17, 2024.

Purpose  

The purpose of this position is to support the Initiative for Law, Societies, and Justice team in conducting research, education, and capacity building related to policy and practice issues that promote access to safety and justice.


Responsibilities  

  • Assisting in the design of new evaluations
  • Reviewing and summarizing the literature on school-based violence reduction initiatives
  • Managing undergraduate research assistants in research tasks
  • Analyzing data
  • Attending and actively participating in weekly project meetings, and research presentations.
  • Receive structured training in preparation for doctoral programs in social science

 


Required Qualifications   
  • Bachelor’s degree: preferably in Psychology, Sociology, or related field, and four years' related experience.
  • Must be able to provide proof of Employment Authorization to work in the U.S. 

Relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.   

  


Preferred Qualifications

  • Eager to learn skills relevant to behavioral science research (for example, systematic review of academic articles, statistical analysis, qualitative data analysis, and academic journal writing).
  • Desire to work collaboratively with interdisciplinary teams of researchers and practitioners.
  • Training in research-specific skills will be provided through the course of the research assistantship. Those with little or no prior research experience are encouraged to apply.
  • Demonstrated interest in solving social issues through prior research, work experience, volunteering, or leadership positions. 


Salary Range  

$42,000+ depending on experience.
