Primary Purpose of Position
The purpose of this position is to monitor and communicate the University’s progress toward advancing inclusive excellence by gathering information from campus entities, creating databases to store survey and research results. This position reports to the Associate Vice Chancellor for Diversity and Inclusion and Chief Diversity Officer.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Four-year degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience, or combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work.

Four-year degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience gathering, editing, and analyzing data for social and economic research; or combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work.
Essential Job Duties
The Social Research Specialist (SRS) position in the Office of Diversity and Inclusion (ODI) is designed to plan, organize, conduct, evaluate, and present social research. Social research includes equity-oriented behavioral, economic, educational, public health/medical, public policy, sociology, and closely related areas. Work is performed to support ODI research, develop programs and inform policies. The SRS will support the execution of the “Building on Common Ground: Inclusive Excellence Strategic Plan ”.
The ODI Social Research Specialist creates or validates frameworks through data/information collection, documentation and analysis with a goal of description and explanation within a higher education context.
The range of duties includes, but is not limited to: project planning and design, developing methodology, database development and management, data/information collection and analysis, project administration, program and/or policy development and evaluation, preparing publications and reports and related products, communication, instruction and public education. Work may include the training and supervision of staff, students and others.

Collaborate with Office of Institutional Research
  • Ability to collect, analyze, and visualize secondary data using a variety of sources
  • Strong organizational as well as oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills
  • Data visualization – Ability to convey data to a variety of audiences as well as use software like Tableau or R Shiny
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
  • Four-year degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience, or combination of training and experience necessary to perform the work.
  • Experience with quantitative and qualitative data collection, analysis, and reporting
  • Track record of effectively working independently with minimal direct supervision
  • Experience conducting social science research projects
  • Experience with large scale datasets
