Position Summary | We are seeking a research assistant (preferably masters prepared), to support a dynamic multi-state and international group of researchers aiming to leverage schools as a platform for improving youth mental health, particularly as the COVID-19 pandemic continues and youth mental health needs are at an all-time high. We have two areas of focus this Research Assistant will support. One area of focus is characterizing an ideal school re-integration plans and supports for adolescents hospitalized for suicidal thoughts and behaviors (STBs) and evaluating whether the presence of these plans and supports is associated with improved STBs for adolescents reintegrating into school after a hospitalization for STBs. The second area focuses on an alternative system of care we created in Darjeeling, India, Tealeaf (Teachers Leading the Frontlines – Mansik Swastha, Tealeaf) in which teachers deliver mental health therapy to their primary school-aged students. One study is characterizing the COVID-19 context in which Tealeaf is being implemented in Darjeeling. This includes studying (1) child mental health statuses during the COVID-19 pandemic, (2) socio-cultural factors contributing to risk and resilience in child mental health during the COVID-19 pandemic, and (3) how Tealeaf as a system adjusts in implementation based on various states of lockdown and school closures. A second study assesses the efficacy of training classroom teachers to deliver evidence-based psychological care based in Darjeeling, India. Both Darjeeling-based studies are in partnership with Darjeeling Ladenla Road Prerna and Broadleaf Health and Education Alliance, two non-governmental organizations with combined decades of experience in community engaged interventions and research. We are looking for someone with previous public health research experience who will be part of the team, with a specific task of assisting the project’s two principal investigators (PIs) with funding applications, trial management, and dissemination of findings. The Research Assistant will support the PIs in the management of all research activities. You will directly participate in manuscript preparation (including literature reviews and writing original text), IRB and regulatory document creation and maintenance, grant application preparation (including literature reviews and writing original text), and creation and maintenance of trial documents, including Standard Operating Procedures. You will communicate with the PIs weekly, with a monthly in person or virtual meeting expected with one of the PIs. |
