Job Summary:

This full-time position is located at the University of Colorado, School of Medicine, Center for Advancing Professional Excellence (CAPE). CAPE provides modern medical simulation education that incorporates clinical scenarios, clinical instructors, mannequins of varying degrees of fidelity, and learners at any level of training into a robust teaching and learning environment. The CAPE is comprised of 14 full-time team members and over 80 part-time standardized patients and teaching associates. 

This position will be based in a fast-paced, challenging, state-of-the-art clinical simulation environment. The person in this position will coordinate projects and provide instruction to a diverse group of learners related to orientation, team communication, and ongoing competency assessment utilizing high fidelity patient care simulators and standardized patients.

  • Position will report to the Curriculum Manager for the Center for Advancing Professional Excellence. Must be able to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Supervision Exercised

  • This position will guide CAPE team members, proctors, standardized patients, assistants, faculty, and learners as it relates to CAPE’s technology infrastructure. These responsibilities will include monitoring all CAPE’s educational and assessment sessions, troubleshooting issues, and monitoring progress.

Responsibilities 

Project Coordination & Support – 70%

  • Manage CAPE simulation projects, with primary focus on physical examination education projects. This includes planning and assisting with budget development, working with clients to design events, delegating, and managing staff responsibilities on projects, and ensuring satisfactory completion of all activities.
  • Plan and implement simulation projects for CAPE clients.
  • Utilize a project management application to organize and delegate project-specific tasks.
  • Communicates with internal and external clients to develop, plan, and implement simulation projects. This includes working with and evaluating standardized patients and teaching associates to ensure satisfactory delivery of all activities.
  • Works collaboratively with Educator Assistants and/or CAPE clients to develop project materials for use by Standardized Physical Exam Teaching Associates (SPETAs), Gynecological Teaching Associates (GTAs), Male Urological Teaching Associates (MUTAs), and Standardized Patients (SPs) such as case scripts, checklists, necessary references, guides, and videos.
  • Works collaboratively with the educator assistants and/or CAPE clients to train SPETAs, GTAs, MUTAs, and SPs.
  • Develop and modify simulation cases and assessment tools such as checklists, patient perception surveys, and post encounters with special attention to validity and reliability issues. 

Training and Education – 20%

  • Teach clients and other simulation specialists on the use of various simulation modalities.
  • Works collaboratively with Educator Assistants and/or CAPE clients to train teaching associates/standardized patients/simulation technicians on aspects related to simulation projects.
  • Conduct briefings/debriefings with clients and project teams.
  • Maintain technical expertise to effectively manage simulation equipment and enforce proper usage and operation by authorized personnel. 

Other – 10%

  • Maintain technical expertise to coordinate projects using A/V technologies/simulation equipment and enforce proper usage and operation by authorized personnel.
  • Conduct and attend briefings/debriefings/meetings with CAPE team members, clients, and project teams.
  • Provide a conduit to the public and University communities about the Center. 
  • Assist the CAPE Director and administration team with projects as needed. This may include assisting with accreditations that fall within the scope of CAPE’s mission and vision.
  • Perform other duties as required.

Work Location:

Onsite – this role is expected to work onsite and is located in Aurora, Colorado.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in an educational field or equivalent professional experience.
  • At least 2 years’ experience in developing and facilitating programs and/or learning events OR at least 2 years’ experience in a higher education environment.

Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Direct experience as a physical exam teaching associate is preferred.
  • Direct project management experience or certification is preferred.
  • Experience with simulation education including training teaching associates and/or standardized patients.
  • Previous experience with simulation center software platforms, ShiftBoard recruitment tool, EMS, B-Line, etc.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to manage large-scale projects efficiently and effectively. 
  • Knowledge of the simulation field. 
  • Ability to gather and manipulate data in an efficient and organized manner. 
  • Ability to work well with a variety of people including members of the Center, Anschutz Medical Campus, clients from within and outside the institution, students, proctors, and teaching associates. 
  • Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.  
  • Ability to be well organized and work effectively on multiple tasks. 
  • Ability to work effectively as part of a team and independently.

Anticipated Pay Range:

The starting salary range (or hiring range ) for this position has been established as $51,525 to $62,000.

The above salary range (or hiring range ) represents the University’s good faith and reasonable estimate of the range of possible compensation at the time of posting. This position may be eligible for overtime compensation, depending on the level.
