Sign Design Technician

MR06 – Starting rate dependent on candidates experience and qualifications

The Facilities Services (FS) Department is responsible for the maintenance and operations of all University of Tennessee, Knoxville campus facilities which includes buildings, grounds, and utility systems. The person in this position will assist in designing, manufacturing/fabricating and the installation of various types of graphic images and signage across the Campus. The successful candidate should have experience with the following software: Flexsign, Engrave Lab and Adobe Illustrator.

Duties/Responsibilities:

·        Design and replicate graphic images using various design software programs.

·        Design of signage for campus to include, but not limited to: vinyl films, building identification signage, traffic signage, outdoor signage, room identification and departmental signage, ADA compliant signage, vehicle graphics, semi-transparent privacy film, etc...

·        Manufacturing of signage and graphics on proper substrates for campus using cutters and printers.

·        Installation of designed graphics and signage to walls, windows, outdoor fixtures, vehicles and other substrates. Installation of signage posts as needed.

·        Proficient in operating graphic cutters and printers, engraving equipment and associated software. Ordering of supplies for equipment and maintenance of equipment.

·        Knowledge of campus design standards, ADA and traffic code requirements. Estimation of project costs.

Qualifications

 

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

Knowledge and ability to operate multiple design and computer software programs.

Ability to use, operate and maintain equipment and tools.

Ability to make decisions and to work independently.

Ability to communicate effectively (verbal and written). Must be accurate, have attention to detail and be well organized.

Ability to work well with others (students, faculty, staff, visitors).

Ability to learn new techniques and problem-solving skills.

 

Minimum/Required Qualifications:

Valid Tennessee Driver’s License

High School Diploma or Equivalent

Minimum of three years’ experience in graphic design.
