Job Summary
The position is part-time, with benefits (20 hours or more per week), and is located at Palomar Observatory. The position works under the supervision of the Facilities Maintenance group supervisor. Under limited direction, the position will work alone or with other observatory staff to perform cleaning of the Palomar Observatory Monastery building, where visiting astronomers (customers) sleep and eat during their stay. Duties include, but are not limited to, cleaning and maintenance of the Monastery building, including dining room, guest rooms, bathrooms, and kitchen; laundry of room bedding, towels, and kitchen linens; shopping, transportation, and inventory of food items, including frozen foods, snacks, and contained drinks. The individual in this position is to communicate effectively with the observatory's management, staff, and the visiting Monastery customers.
Essential Job Duties

• Cleaning of the Monastery dining room, guest rooms, bathrooms, and other areas used by the visiting customers.
• Laundry of guest room bedding, towels, and dining linens.
• General maintenance of the Monastery building's interior and exterior.
• Shopping and transporting all guest food items, including frozen meals, snacks, and drinks.
• Inventory and storage of all food and drink items.
• Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications

• Ability to communicate and follow verbal and written instructions.
• Must have some general facility/building maintenance experience.
• Must have a valid California driver's license and maintain it throughout employment.
• Must be able to work outside in inclement weather, to work in confined and/or elevated spaces, at an elevation of 6000 feet.
• Must be able to use basic tools safely.
• Must be able to lift 20 lbs.

Preferred Qualifications

• Previous experience with Monastery operation and cleaning is desired.
