Senior UX Designer - Digital Learning at UT

Digital Learning at UT, is a newly created unit charged with advancing UT’s commitment to discovery, creativity, learning, and engagement, specifically for online learners. Using advanced and innovative technologies, Digital Learning at UT will provide scalable solutions that enhance the online learning experience and reduce barriers to student access and success, providing a tremendous impact to online learners across the state and the nation. At Digital Learning, we want to be bold and impactful, transforming the future of online education through innovative thinking and collaboration problem-solving. 

We are seeking a Senior User-Experience (UX) Designer to oversee all UX projects related to the departments marketing efforts and enrollment goals. Reporting to the Director of Visual and Digital Design, S/he will independently research, conceptualize and design high-quality, data-driven design solutions to enhance user experience for a variety of audiences for all Digital Learning initiatives. This position will play a vital role in understanding how to analyze and predict user behavior, identify technical limitations, and design problems and devise elegant solutions through sketching, wireframing, prototyping, user/AB testing and data analysis.

This role will integrate with multiple teams to create cohesive and complex user focused Omni-Channel communication experiences in a variety of digital/physical spaces in support of UT and Digital Learning overall recruitment and retention goals.  S/he will demonstrate familiarity and high-level skills in UI/UX design trends while adhering to UT brand and accessibility standards. At least 3-5 years of experience working with Adobe Creative Suite, Figma and/or any similar wireframing/prototyping program is required.

The salary range for this position is approximately between $70,000-$75,000 per year with the potential for a hybrid or remote working capacity.

Job Duties

  • Information Architecture, Interaction and User-Centered Design
    • Lead the design process from research, concept development, wireframing, and prototyping to final visual design.
    • Translate user needs and business objectives into visually compelling data-driven design solutions
    • Develop intuitive and efficient information structures to facilitate easy navigation and access to relevant content for students, faculty, and administrators.
    • Design interactive elements, transitions, and animations that engage users and provide seamless interactions across various platforms and devices.
    • Develop and iterate on site maps, user flows, mockups, and wireframes to establish the structure and organization of digital interfaces.
    • Ensure that all design solutions adhere to accessibility standards and best practices, making them usable for individuals with disabilities.
    • Contribute to the development and maintenance of a comprehensive design system that ensures consistency across all touchpoints.
    • Design print and other digital marketing collateral to support an Omni-Channel communication experience for faculty, staff and all stages of the student life-cycle.
    • Organize photo shoots and video production as it relates to UI/UX or other marketing needs to ensure alignment with brand and communication strategy.
    • Design the visual elements of the interface, including color schemes, typography, iconography, and imagery, to create a cohesive and visually appealing look and feel while also adhering to UT/Digital Learning brand guidelines
    • Manage and provide guidance to student workers, graduate assistants, agencies and freelance consultants.
  • Research & Data Analysis
    •  Analyze data and feedback to identify user personas, user journeys, and key user tasks that will support more personalized communications with all levels of the student life cycle.
    • Conduct discovery activities such as usability and AB testing to help define user journeys increase conversions and improve overall user experience.
    • Research User data via Google analytics, Slate, Salesforce, SEM Rush or other tools to predict behavior, identify limitations and design problems. 
  • Relationship Development - Communication, Collaboration, and Partnership 
    • Collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to understand business goals, user needs, and functional requirements to inform design decisions.
    • Partner with developers to ensure seamless implementation of designs and provide ongoing design support during development phases.
    • Provide exceptional relationship management by creating synergies with internal teams and marketing units across campus.
    • Contribute in meaningful ways to the diversity and intercultural goals of the University
  • Training & Continuing Education
    • Train and educate staff and student workers on new interface guidelines and design patterns
    • Attend conferences and webinars to stay up-to-date on design systems, trends, and technologies in user experience design
    • Complete mandatory trainings and continuing education requirements set forth by the university.

Required Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in Marketing & Communication, Graphic Design, UI/UX Design and/or Web Design
  • Advanced skills in the following areas: Expert knowledge of design principles for both print and digital
  • Proven ability and experience in designing clean user-friendly interfaces
  • Experience in building successful, lead generating user journeys
  • Analytical skills in monitoring and predicting user behavior
  • Experience working with Google Analytics, GTM or similar data collection platforms.

Preferred Education & Experience:

  • Master’s degree in Marketing & Communication, Graphic Design, UI/UX Design and/or Web Design
  • 5 years full time experience as a UX Designer
  • 2-3 years higher education experience
