Position Summary:

The mission of the public health program at the University of California Irvine is to create, integrate and disseminate population and community based knowledge to promote health and reduce the societal burden of human disease and disability through excellence in research, education, and public service. The mission of the Public Health Student Affairs Office is to facilitate the academic development of Public Health students, and to assist them in achieving their academic, personal, and professional goals by providing high quality academic advising and guidance.

Under the general supervision of the Director of Student Affairs, the Senior Undergraduate Advisor is responsible for assisting undergraduate and prospective students in Public Health. Responsibilities include advising, assisting with student affairs orientations, commencement events and other activities as needed for the Public Health undergraduate program. Utilize basic counseling skills to assess students’ needs especially for certain student populations (i.e., International Students, athletes, freshmen, etc.). Provides advice to students on the full range of requirements for a department, college, or school with a wide variety of course requirements. Recommends solutions to progression and requirement issues. Works independently under general supervision.

$56,208.96 - $76,504.32 (Annual Salary) Expected Pay Range within the Full Salary Range $56,200.00 - $96,800.00 (Annual Salary)

 

Required:

• 3-5 years of related work experience

• Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training. Master’s Degree preferred.

Thorough knowledge of advising and counseling techniques. Knowledge of multiple majors, colleges, and schools. Thorough knowledge of college / school policies, procedures, and requirements. Thorough knowledge of department / school / college policies, procedures, and requirements. Skills in judgment and decision-making, problem solving. Ability to multi-task. Abilities in problem identification, reasoning, ability to develop original ideas to solve problems. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Outlook. Flexibility to work some evenings and weekends for special events. Desire and ability to speak and present at public events such as recruitment fairs, workshops and seminars. Effective oral, written and interpersonal communication skills. Proven ability to work as a member of a team and collaborate effectively with other staff, faculty, students, and the general public. Must also be able to work independently, utilizing good sound judgment, by managing time constraints and competing deadlines.

 

Preferred:

Working knowledge of University Registrar Systems including WebAdmin, DegreeWorks, EEE/Canvas, ESOC, WebRoster, WebGrades, etc. Knowledge of University, State, and National Policies governing Student Records, including student's right of privacy and disclosure of information (FERPA). Knowledge of UC and UCI policies, the UCI Catalogue, and Academic Senate Rules and Regulations.
