Job Description Summary:
The George Washington University (GW) Office of Survey Research and Analysis seeks a detail-oriented Senior Survey Research Analyst to plan, gather, analyze, and summarize survey data, in order to provide university stakeholders with reliable and accurate information and analysis with which to make planning decisions. The core responsibilities of this role are to manage the development and analysis of internal and external surveys, including overseeing the creation of the surveys, providing summaries of data, and ensuring that statistical analyses and the merging of survey day with system data are accurate.
The Office of Survey Research and Analysis serves the George Washington University by undertaking major survey research about students, faculty, and staff and by coordinating the development, distribution, and analysis of these results. This office conducts social research and analysis to support assessment and accreditation requirements and academic program reviews.
Reporting to the Director of Survey Research and Analysis, the Analyst will:
  • Independently conducts and manages survey research of the GW population of undergraduate and graduate students, faculty, and staff. Surveys typically pertain to the education of students and services provided by GW to students, faculty, and staff. Manages all aspects of research projects including the development of online and paper surveys, data cleaning, dissemination and collection, scanning, coding, statistical analysis of data, sampling of GW population, and production of graphs and tables. Writes statistical programs, and determines the appropriate statistical analysis of data. Merges survey data with student records to create comprehensive databases; cleans data sets to ensure data integrity. All work performed and managed includes great attention to detail.
  • Trains staff and student employees to design tables, graphs, and visualizations to display results and data in a simple and straightforward manner; summarizes data for use by deans, vice presidents/provosts, department chairs, and directors. Responds to research queries posted by other GW departments, and delegate these queries as needed. Summarizes research findings and writes reports, and oversees and reviews research findings and reports written by other staff. Trains staff on how to query data and generate reports using statistical software and business intelligence software. Review all work performed to make sure it is accurate.
  • Train staff on the use of survey platforms, office practices and procedures, use of business intelligence software, and platforms to create data visualizations.
  • Develops procedures for and train staff on systematizing data collection and data cleaning for our office and for other collaborating offices.
  • Manages University-wide online course evaluation process including updating the website, inviting department participation, reminding students to complete evaluations, and solving problems about access to the system. Trains department administrators on how to use the system and develop additional questions for evaluations.
  • Supervises and trains work-study students and student assistants on how to code data, use spreadsheets, graphic programs, content analysis, and design surveys. Monitors statistical output of half-time graduate research assistants to ensure the appropriate statistics are being used and that output is accurate.
  • Works cooperatively with the Academic Planning and Assessment, and Office of Institutional Research and Planning; attends meetings and participates on committees as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area of specialization plus 5 years of relevant professional experience, or, a Master’s degree or higher in a relevant area of study plus 3 years of relevant professional experience. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position. Degree requirements may be substituted with an equivalent combination of education, training and experience.

  • Knowledge of and experience with survey science research methods including focus groups and conducting content analyses of data preferred.
  • Comprehensive understanding of statistical methods and the use of appropriate statistics.
  • Experience with a range of software packages including Microsoft Word, Excel, Access, SAS, Tableau, and Qualtrics desired.
  • Knowledge of relational databases is desired.
Hiring Range $72,235.20 - $99,250.68
