Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Shift Supervisor, the UCSF Senior Security Guard will provide proactive crime prevention patrol of all Medical Center Facilities and safety surveillance for all staff, patients, and guests.  All Officers will monitor activities to ensure compliance with stated policies and program services.  Each Guard will be assigned specific POST duties and understand, assist, and respond to requests for security assistance.  There are POST orders and policies and procedures for areas of responsibility.  There are special projects and events, the Guard will comply with other duties as assigned.

Effective 10/17/23:  We are offering a new hire sign-on bonus of $500 to all external hires!

Department Description

In conjunction with UCSF Police Department, the 24-hour on-site Security Services Department of UCSF Health is responsible for monitoring Medical Center services and activities.  Its primary goals are the safety and security of patients, staff, and visitors, and to ensure that UCSF Medical Center remains a safe and secure facility.

Scope of Services:

  •     Coordination of card-access systems for Medical Center buildings and departments
  •     Mandatory Medical Center ID-card program
  •     Medical Center's access and parking control requirements
  •     Medical Center internal and external security patrols
  •     Responses to Codes Pink, Purple, Grey, Silver
  •     Lost and Found management
  •     Communication and operator services
  •     Workplace violence and threat management services
  •     Safety escorts for patients, visitors, staff, and students
  •     State Department of Health Services and JCAHO Security compliance standards
  •     Personal safety training, orientations, and crime prevention workshops

Required Qualifications

•  High School Diploma or GED
•  One or more years of Security experience
•  Valid California Driver’s License
•  Valid Guard Card from California Consumer Services
•  Excellent communication and writing skills – ability to write and read reports
•  Computer skills to include experience using Microsoft Office: Word, Outlook & Excel
•  The flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center locations


Preferred Qualifications

•  Associate's (AA or AS) Degree
•  Two or more years of security experience


License/Certification

•  Valid California Driver’s License
•  Valid Guard Card - California Consumer Services
