Senior Scientist - Neurosurgery

Position Summary
A Senior Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Alexander H. Stegh, Ph.D., Scientific Director of the Brain Tumor Center, Washington University School of Medicine. The laboratory is currently seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to join the dynamic research team. The successful candidate will contribute to cutting-edge research in the development of immunostimulatory nanostructures. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on innovative projects aimed at advancing the field of brain tumor immunotherapy. Importantly, the ideal candidate is eager to learn and discover new forefronts of nanomedicine and is a self-sufficient but team-oriented individual.
The Stegh group includes scientists with expertise in tumor immunology, biology, and the development and use of genetically engineered mouse models. Research topics center on the control of molecules and materials at the nanometer length scale, and the use of these materials in neuro-oncology applications.
Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.

Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

• Collaborates on designing, conducting and reporting of research projects.
• Assists with grant preparation and reporting. May submit grant proposals in rare circumstances with the approval of the PI, Department Head and Dean.
• Prepares and submits papers on research.
• Develops hypotheses to be tested and ways of testing it.
• Complies with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
• Manages research project with other institutions and investigators.
• Performs other duties as assigned.

Working Conditions

Works in a laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. Must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.

Preferred Qualifications

• Analytical reasoning and problem-solving skills.
• Demonstrated working knowledge of standard laboratory policies, procedures and equipment.
• Ability to communicate in oral and written form with all levels of personnel and technical publications.
• Ability to work well independently or as a team member.

Required Qualifications

PhD, M.D. or equivalent terminal degree and at least 3 years of postdoctoral experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 12 years.

Salary Range
$62,200.00 - $112,700.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
