Position Summary
We are an immunology laboratory focused on developing novel therapies for type 1 diabetes. We work with mouse models and patients in hospitals. We are seeking a Senior Research Technician to manage our mouse colonies (50%) and participate in crucial experiments (50%). Performs independently complex research studies, experiments and assays.


Job Description

Primary Duties & Responsibilities

  • Manages mouse colony, including setting up breeders, weaning the mice, and genotyping.
  • Performs complex analysis/projects according to research protocols, explaining methods and procedures to other technicians.
  • Provides for data entry and current data files on research projects. Monitors data to ensure consistent quality.
  • May perform preliminary statistical analysis of data.
  • Assures compliance with established safety procedures and maintains required documentation on laboratory and specimen conditions.
  • Ensures lab conditions and equipment are properly cleaned and maintained in accordance with established procedures.
  • Assists in the training and development of technicians, acting as a group leader.


Working Conditions

This position works in laboratory environment with potential exposure to biological, chemical and radioactive hazards. The individual must be physically able to wear protective equipment and to provide standard care to research animals.


Preferred Qualifications

  • Hands-on experience with mouse work.
  • Ability to work independently and communicate with laboratory staff and investigators.
  • Ability to maintain complete and organized records/reports.
  • Working knowledge of computer software and general lab equipment.


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree with 2 years of experience in a laboratory setting or equivalent combination of education and experience equaling 7 years.

Salary Range
$18.40 - $31.31 / Hourly

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
