Job Summary

The Senior Research Technician will assist and coordinate research done by the center for Geomechanics and the Mitigation of Geohazards. The successful candidate will be a motivated individual with a scientific background, experience in research and scientific writing, and organized to handle the day-to-day routine management and coordination of the research activities of the Center, under the direction of the Center Director.


Essential Job Duties
  • Provide assistance in support of research projects including literature research (on induced seismicity, CO2 subsurface storage and geothermal operations); provide information for research reports, and/or article writing as needed.
  • Work with GMG project faculty PIs to help elaborate research projects to be proposed to our industry sponsor.
  • Contribute to the development and curation of a scientific database of induced seismicity, and modeling workflows and results related to CO2 subsurface storage and geothermal operations and modeling results.
  • May contribute to journal articles, publications and may present findings at meetings, scientific organizations or conferences with PI.
  • Oversee and coordinate all events and meetings with faculty, visitors and students. 
  • Responsible for GMG grant management.
  • Assist in developing research agreements with industry partners (Membership Agreement, By-Laws).
  • Track deadlines for grant applications, progress reports, etc., and coordinate submission with PI.
  • Must be able to upload and work in Fastlane and Research.gov.
  • Assist with the maintenance and distribution of the GMG codes (for geomechanical modeling, reservoir modeling, and seismicity forecast).
  • Other duties as assigned.

Basic Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Science or related field with 3 years of relevant experience and/or training.
  • 1 year of relevant administrative and financial/budget management experience, preferably in an academic scientific or research environment.
  • Experience with developing and managing websites, and data repository.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, organization skills, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to read and interpret documents, such as procedure manuals, and grants/award guidelines.
  • Ability to effectively and continuously prioritize and use sound judgment, based on knowledge and understanding of PI’s and lab's needs.
  • Must possess strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to handle a variety of tasks and to shift priorities simultaneously working with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to work under time pressure and deliver work product to a high professional standard.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Ph.D. in Science.
  • Experience in research and scientific writing.
  • Experience in the area of geomechanics and geohazards.
  • Experience in preparation of award proposals including budget data.
  • Experience in grants/budget oversight for both federal and non-federal funding sources.
