SENIOR RESEARCH SUPPORT ASSOCIATE, Civil and Environmental Engineering-Molecular Biology of Ocean Microbes, to join a multidisciplinary group studying the molecular ecology of the marine microorganism Prochlorococcus, the most abundant photosynthetic cell on the planet. The research team specializes in studying this microbe from the genome level to whole ocean scales, using integrative systems biology approaches. Job responsibilities will include maintaining bacterial cultures and lab equipment, ordering of lab consumables, running and analyzing flow cytometry samples, developing a genetic system for Prochlorococcus using molecular tools and techniques, and performing general upkeep and organization of the lab. Research will focus on using molecular tools and techniques for developing a genetic system for Prochlorococcus, but there will be opportunities to work on multiple projects and subjects.
REQUIRED: a high school education or its equivalent; demonstrated ability to independently execute, analyze, and troubleshoot experiments; excellent oral and written communication skills; and strong organizational and critical thinking skills. Seek a highly motivated individual who is able to multitask, work effectively with others, and maintain confidentiality. Experience with microbial culturing, molecular biological techniques, and flow cytometers preferred. A bachelor’s degree in biology or related science field is also preferred. Job #14581-5
