Job Description Summary:
Department of Microbiology, KUMC is seeking a highly motivated candidate to work in the laboratory of Dr. Tse lab as a Senior Research Associate to perform a variety of immunology, microbiology, and virology experiments with involvement in ongoing experiments. Maintain a large animal colony to study autoimmune responses and ß-cell responses in Type 1 diabetes.
Job Description:

Required Qualifications

Education: PhD in biology or related field, or Master’s degree in biology or related field with three (3) years of laboratory bench or other related professional experience.

Work Experience:

  • One (1) to three (3) years of experience with research involving animals.

  • Working knowledge of understanding of cell biology, immunology, and molecular biology, as evidenced by application materials and work experience.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills as evidenced by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: PhD in biological sciences.

Work Experience: Experience working with Type 1 diabetes mice.

Skills:

  • Detail-oriented, organized, can prioritize multiple tasks, and work independently as well as in a team environment. 

  • Sound judgment, strong analytical skills, driven and exceptional interpersonal skills.

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Perform research under direction of PI/Faculty and work with live mouse models, including diabetic mouse models.

  • Animal colony maintenance, islet isolation, immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, and molecular biology techniques.

  • Perform collaborative studies with other research laboratories at KUMC.

  • Maintain a current Laboratory Notebook, documenting all calculations, work, experiments, and other pertinent research information.

  • Train and assist postdocs and students in basic techniques in laboratory procedures and maintenance.

  • Compliance: Attend and maintain compliance on all orientation and training sessions designated by the University and the Microbiology Department, understand and follow IACUC, animal, and biosafety protocols, and attend regular lab meetings.

  • Perform other duties as assigned by direct supervisor.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
