The Department of Neurology & Rehabilitation Medicine serves to fulfill the tripartite mission of all academic departments contributing to patient care, education, and discovery that leads to new therapeutics. We partner with colleagues George Washington University Hospital, the Children’s National Health System, the Washington DC Department of Veterans Affairs Medical Center and our neighbor institutions, including the National Institutes of Health. Patients benefit from state of the art care utilizing advanced medical technologies. The interest of the laboratory is to understand the immune system dysregulation in autoimmune diseases. Our work is funded by the NIH, Patient Advocacy Groups, and donations to the Laboratory for Myasthenia Gravis Research. To achieve that goal the laboratory is dedicated to the pathogenesis of myasthenia gravis. Our therapy development program spans preclinical programs, clinical trials, biomarker discovery, and basic research on the autoimmune process.
The Sr. Research Associate carries out research/development activities by designing and conducting experiments in a controlled laboratory setting. Using a wide degree of creativity and latitude, the core responsibilities of this position are to make detailed observations, analyze data, and interpret results, with limited guidance from the Principal Investigator. This position compiles results and prepares technical reports and documentation of outcomes. This role is familiar with a variety of field concepts, practices, and procedures, and can perform a variety of research tasks. This position typically reports to a project supervisor or project manager and may provide guide to lower-level staff.
Duties Include:
• Designs, develop and performs advanced experimental assessment interrogating immune function in human samples and animal models.
• Performs experimental methods include but are not limited to splenic cell purification, PBMC purification, flow cytometry, proliferation assay, immune-fluorescent microscopy, ELISA, immunohistochemistry and tissue assessment.
• Performs training sessions with the staff in the equipment operation and research techniques.
• Prepares of manuscripts for publication in conjunction with their supervisor.
• Compiles results and prepares experimental technical reports and documentation of outcomes.
•This position performs other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:

Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree and 3 years of direct experience in a related discipline. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position
