Job Description Summary:
The Senior Research Associate (SRA) position will serve as a project coordinator for multiple research projects within the George Washington University Milken Institute School of Public Health (GWSPH) Department of Epidemiology. These studies include the Washington, DC site for the CDC-sponsored National HIV Behavioral Surveillance (NHBS) system and other protocols funded by the HIV Prevention Trials Network within the DC Clinical Trials Unit. Under the public health/academic collaboration with the DC Department of Health HIV/AIDS, Hepatitis, STD and TB Administration, the GWSPH Department of Epidemiology is contracted to conduct the NHBS study for the DC DOH, and the DC CTU oversees the HPTN protocols that are conducted by the GW SPH.
The Department is seeking an SRA to manage all daily operations of the NHBS study, ensure implementation of study protocols, and conduct data analysis and report writing. This person will be responsible for providing coaching and delegation to field staff (research support staff, phlebotomists, graduate student research interviewers) in conjunction with the field supervisor. The position will be responsible for liaising with the DC DOH project officer and staff, CDC project officer, and other community partners for the effective conduct of the study. The position will also be responsible for conducting or overseeing all data management and data flow, as well as conducting or overseeing all data analyses for reports and manuscripts.
The SRA will provide part-time and back-up support of the HPTN studies, including current field and clinic-based studies in addition to and future protocols implemented through the GW CRS. Responsibilities include supporting the implementation of the protocols and willingness to work in a fast-paced, rapidly changing environment to meet the needs of high-risk participants.
The Senior Research Associate will report to the project Principal Investigator (PI).
Responsibilities Include:
  • Ensure quantitative and qualitative data collection with the study team and report writing to meet CDC and DOH contract requirements; conduct data management, analysis, and report/manuscript writing; ensure quality assurance and quality improvement of data collection; create reports that synthesize analytical findings and provide general statistical support as needed.

  • Manage and oversee outreach activities with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the Department of Health, and other clinical and community stakeholders.

  • Assist PI with regulatory activities.

  • Collaborating with a multidisciplinary team, including physicians, medical staff, and peer navigators, as needed.

Perform other related duties as assigned. The omission of specific duties does not preclude the supervisor from assigning duties that are logically related to the position.
Minimum Qualifications:
Qualified candidates will hold a master’s degree in a related discipline and 3 years of direct experience in the field. Degree must be conferred by the start date of the position.
Additional Required Licenses/Certifications/Posting Specific Minimum Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Knowledge and/or experience in HIV testing, counseling, care, or public health prevention.
  • Willingness to assist with field operations (recruitment, data collection, and setting up systems) when needed.
  • Demonstrated experience and understanding of SAS programming or related statistical packages.
  • Experience in submitting IRB applications and maintaining regulatory documents.
  • Experience in report and manuscript preparation and writing.
  • Experience giving verbal scientific and non-scientific presentations.
  • Proficient verbal, written, and interpersonal skills.
  • Previous experience working in academic, professional, community, and healthcare settings.
  • Previous experience conducting outreach to and working with drug using or other highly vulnerable populations.
  • Knowledge of harm reduction principles.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision to achieve study goals.
Typical Hiring Range Commensurate with Experience.
