MD Anderson's Cancer Biology department has a long history of being a leader in the field of basic and translational cancer biology research. The department emphasizes the training of students, postdoctoral fellows and clinical fellows in the fundamentals of tumor biology to improve the outcomes of patients with malignancies. The department has built a program with close ties to many clinical departments to facilitate information exchange between the laboratory and the clinic. As such, faculty in the department are investigators on NIH funded collaborative cancer biology research grants. In addition, there are several physician-scientists who have joint appointments in Cancer Biology, facilitating the exchange of clinically-relevant information between the laboratory and the clinic.
The primary purpose of the Senior Research Assistant is to coordinate and conduct experiments in collaboration with a senior member of the laboratory. The candidate will facilitate the research compliance requirements of the laboratory and process routine reagent orders. Duties will include routine management of mouse colonies and perform genotyping for transgenic mice. Dr. Lei's laboratory is jointly supported by the Departments of Head and Neck Surgery and Cancer Biology.
We are interested in dissecting the oncogenic and metabolic pathways that dampen cancer immunogenicity. We will examine the molecular mechanism regulating the plasticity of myeloid cell response to immune stimulation and identify central factors regulating the tumor immune microenvironment. We integrate a rich repertoire of technologies, including biochemistry, flow cytometry, next-generation sequencing, single-cell immune profiling, spatial transcriptomics, and transgenic modeling, to vet the mechanisms underpinning innate immune tolerance of cancers.
