Position Description
The Department of Linguistics seeks applications for a senior preceptor in American Sign Language (ASL) which is expected to begin on July 1, 2024. The senior preceptor will be responsible for teaching beginning and/or intermediate in-person courses as part of our existing six semester ASL course sequence, with the opportunity to develop and teach advanced courses in ASL, Deaf history and culture, ASL Literature, sign language linguistics, or related fields depending on student interest and instructor expertise; administrative duties include curriculum design and pedagogical oversight, training and supervising of new preceptors in the ASL program, and working with the Linguistics department to support and develop activities and events on campus connected to the ASL curriculum. The position is for five years and renewable with no limits contingent upon performance, enrollments, and curricular need.
Basic Qualifications
The successful applicant should have significant experience teaching and administering courses in American Sign Language at the college level, demonstrated excellence in teaching, an advanced (masters or doctoral) degree in Sign Language Education or a related field (Linguistics, Deaf Studies), native or near-native fluency in ASL, and extensive knowledge of Deaf culture.

Although optional for the application process, the successful candidate will be required to provide a sample course syllabus prior to the appointment.

7. Names and contact information of at least three referees, who will be asked by a system-generated email to upload a letter of recommendation once the candidate’s application has been submitted. Three letters of recommendation are required, and the application is considered complete only when at least three letters have been received.
