Posting Context Statement
The Center on Disabilities and Human Development (CDHD) is an independent unit within the College of Education, Health and Human Sciences. The CDHD is supported through a federal infrastructure grant with numerous projects funded through sponsored accounts.
The CDHD improves the lives of people with disabilities and their families by educating an interdisciplinary workforce, providing training and technical assistance within communities, conducting research, providing direct servicesand disseminating evidence-based information.
Position Overview
This position is responsible for designing and developing and, when needed, teaching innovative and engaging learning content, training materials and instructional and informational web pages that enhance knowledge retention and transfer.
Duties may include:
  • Contribute as a collaborative member of an instructional design team
  • Plan and manage instructional design projects that facilitate learners in acquiring knowledge and skills in an effective and appealing manner
  • Confer and advise project staff and other constituents on best practices in integrating technologies into training program design
  • Ensure training products and web design are WCAG compliant
  • Provide training and technical support to staff and other constituents
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • Three years as an instructional designer/online learning specialist in an academic setting
Required Education
  • Master’s Degree in instructional design, online learning and pedagogy, curriculum and instruction, or educational technology
Required Other
  • None
Additional Preferred
  • Four or more years of related work experience as an instructional designer/online learning specialist in an academic setting
  • Working on the administrator side of at least one Learning Management System (LMS)
  • Using web design software, HTML5, content management software, graphic design software and desktop publishing software
  • Creating online training modules using e-learning content authoring tools
  • Creating multi-media content including the creation and editing of audio (.mp3) and video (.mp4) files
  • Developing online content and web pages that conform to WCAG 2.0 accessibility standards
  • Working with people with disabilities
  • Using/writing in plain language
  • Supervising staff
  • Prioritizing and handling multiple projects simultaneously
  • Working collaboratively with diverse internal and external constituents
  • Designing, developing and delivering dynamic workshops and in-person training sessions
