Position Summary
Performs advanced statistical analysis in support of Human Resources and University data-driven decision-making and strategic planning. Has primary responsibility for a variety of reporting, trending and analysis projects and initiatives using HR data from both current and legacy systems. Analyzes data, produces reports and graphics, and writes summary reports to translate results of analysis into actionable information. Also responsible for: identifying data needs for various HR functions; fulfilling internal and external requests for reporting, trending and analysis using data about the WUSTL workforce; and creating data structures necessary to capture and retain data for trending, modeling and forecasting purposes in order to bridge data needs between current (i.e., Workday) and legacy (i.e., PeopleSoft) systems.


Job Description

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a subject matter expert in WUSTL Human Resources data.
  • Develops and streamlines data models for efficient analysis and reporting.
  • Analyzes data and creates reports for management as a tool to review HR information against strategic initiatives.
  • Prepares informational and analytical reports that illustrate present conditions, identify trends, and recommend opportunities for improvement.
  • Identifies and collects data from various sources to examine business issues and propose options/solutions for Human Resources and other business functions across the University.
  • Extracts and formats datasets for analysis, utilizing a variety of statistical techniques to create and test model results.
  • Determines best methods of presenting data relating to HR and other business issues.
  • Determines and develops metrics within Human Resources and other business venues, which support short-term and long-term business planning.
  • Provides input on suggested business actions based on analytical results.
  • Conducts cost/benefit analysis for various business problems as requested.
  • Maintains systems and tools for managing trend-line data.
  • Builds regression models and other statistical models using standard statistical tools as appropriate.
  • Assists management in interpreting and implementing changes in laws and regulations that impact higher education and academic medicine. Assists management in responses to government audits and requests for information.
  • May prepare reports and analyses related to university compliance with federal, state and local laws and regulations as they relate to human resources, particularly reporting requirements specific to higher education institutions.
  • May serve on various committees and working groups in support of University administration, particularly those focused on implementing data and analytics.
  • Ability and interest in partnering with faculty members and University senior administration on complex analyses to support data-driven decision-making.
  • May assist in building literature reviews, statistical models for publications, and in developing concepts for grant applications as they relate to HR data.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Required Qualifications

Master’s degree (or equivalent experience) in statistics, political science, psychology, economics, business administration, human resources or a related field, plus two to four years’ experience using statistical techniques and data analysis tools such as Stata, R, SAS and/or SPSS. A doctoral degree in one of these fields may substitute for the required experience. Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office applications particularly Excel, PowerPoint, Word, and Access. Requires intermediate to advanced programming skills in one or more statistical packages.

Salary Range
$64,700.00 - $110,500.00 / Annually

The salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
