Summary of Duties:
The primary function of this position is to perform duties in post-award grant and contract accounting and compliance in the field of financial research administration, in accordance with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP), ensuring expenses are allowable, allocable, reasonable and consistent. The incumbent will serve as a senior specialist, responsible for a more complex portfolio of awards including, but not limited to: sponsors with non-standard terms and conditions; complex budgets, including significant cost share; cross-functional research collaborations and/or Centers and Institutes; more heavily audited programs or those with significant compliance concerns (i.e. Salary Cap); or a broad range of awards aggregated by the client department, rather than by sponsor. Such senior/specialist duties require consistent application of advanced knowledge, and requires skill and experience to function independently. The incumbent will independently devise methods and processes to resolve complex or difficult issues with broad and/or cross-functional impact.
SPS serves WSU system-wide including the Pullman, Everett, Spokane, Tri-Cities, and Vancouver campuses. This position is currently eligible for remote work; the work schedule is required to primarily overlap normal Sponsored Program Services (SPS) Office hours M-F between 8am - 5pm Pacific Time.
Required Qualifications:
A Bachelor’s degree, which includes 18 quarter or 12 semester hours in accounting, auditing, or budgeting and two (2) years of relevant professional experience, or equivalent education/experience.
Intermediate to advanced proficiency level with Microsoft software programs such as Outlook, Excel, Access, Word and PowerPoint to create spreadsheets, graphs, charts and reports, prepare presentations, conduct data analysis and manage information efficiently.
Preferred Qualifications:
Experience with the enterprise resource planning system Workday
Knowledge of or experience with OFM accounting regulations (i.e. Uniform Guidance
Knowledge of or experience with the WSU BPPM
Possess advanced computer skills, specifically working in a Microsoft Windows environment with an emphasis on Excel.
Possess the ability to communicate technical accounting language and terms in a user-friendly format
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting
Experience with research grants and contracts
Experience auditing and reconciling complex financial data
Experience leading the work of others

Monthly Salary: Range 50 | $4,282 to $5,756 (Step A - M) | Successful candidates typically begin at the beginning of the salary range and receive scheduled salary increment increases in accordance with WAC 357-28 .
