Job Summary
Under the general direction of the Executive Director of Alumni Relations, the Senior Director of Alumni Relations is responsible for leading a team that oversees alumni relations across various campus programs. This role involves direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Alumni Relations and the Alumni Relations Manager, overseeing all aspects of their development, program planning, and evaluation. The Senior Director also acts as the primary staff partner for one or more UCSF schools or programs, tasked with nurturing alumni volunteer groups and fostering effective relationships with key constituencies.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership: Guides, directs, and manages units focused on building and maintaining relationships with alumni and other constituencies. Ensures programs and policies effectively engage alumni and align with UCSF's overarching goals.
Alumni Engagement Programming: Oversees development and implementation of alumni programming, including regional programs, reunions, and affinity groups. Acts as the lead strategic planner for reunions, aligning school-specific objectives with UCSF's goals.
Collaboration and Coordination: Works closely with internal and external partners, often at the highest levels, to develop alumni programs that highlight UCSF's achievements and support institutional objectives. This includes building strong relationships with school leadership and representing UCSF at national organizations.
Strategic Planning: Collaborates with Development Officers and senior campus administration to implement effective strategies for alumni engagement, with an emphasis on supporting fundraising objectives.
Student and Alumni Engagement: Acts as the leads strategic planner for the team’s student and alumni engagement programming, championing standardized student engagement programs and fostering partnerships across campus.
Data and Benchmarking: Provides periodic analyses and benchmarking data to guide program improvements and align UCSF with industry best practices.
In addition to these duties, the Senior Director acts as a deputy to the Executive Director of Alumni Relations and will serve as their proxy in their absence.

The final salary and offer components are subject to additional approvals based on UC policy.
Your placement within the salary range is dependent on a number of factors including your work experience and internal equity within this position classification at UCSF. For positions that are represented by a labor union, placement within the salary range will be guided by the rules in the collective bargaining agreement.
The salary range for this position is $105,900 - $225,900 (Annual Rate).

Department Description
The UCSF Foundation and the Office of University Development and Alumni Relations (UDAR) are responsible for fostering and strengthening the campus outreach efforts to UCSF constituents and for garnering private support for the campus and the Medical Center. In raising private support, UDAR identifies, qualifies, solicits and stewards donors for the schools, medical centers, departments and programs on campus; accepts and administers all private gifts to the university through The Regents or the UCSF Foundation; and manages all alumni relations activities, campus support group activities and campus events. The UDAR office staffs the UCSF Foundation. The office is also responsible for the design and implementation of fundraising campaigns for UCSF
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training
- 10+ years of directly related work experience in Alumni Relations or related field
- Expert, thorough, in-depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, infrastructure, history, long-range strategic plans, current issues of concern, accomplishments, and awards
- Expert knowledge of the principles and concepts of building and maintaining effective relationships with alumni and key constituencies to achieve institutional goals and objectives
- Expert level written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, including attentive listening skills and skills to ascertain constituency perception
- Expert skill to quickly identify and develop strategies to effectively communicate the institution's message
- Expert level analytical and decision-making skills, sound judgment and highly developed political acumen
- Expert skill to recognize potential areas of constituency concern and skill to effectively address, resolve and / or mitigate problems or issues
- Expert, thorough, in-depth knowledge and understanding of all aspects of the campus, its vision, mission, goals, objectives, infrastructure, history, long-range strategic plans, current issues of concern, accomplishments and awards
