Senior Content Strategist Writer (Remote)

In this role, you will write and edit website and print content for Duke Health Marketing and Communications, but primarily DukeHealth.org, our consumer-facing website. We need a strong writer with a digital focus who will perform all levels of writing and editing, from research and interviewing subject matter experts, to developing copy, copyediting, fact-checking, and proofreading. You will also manage the ongoing development and direction of DukeHealth.org’s editorial style guide, and ensure it applies to all Duke Health marketing content.
What You’ll Do:
Research, Write, Edit, Proofread
•    Research, write, and publish materials to support Duke Health’s consumer marketing efforts on a variety of platforms. This includes web treatment pages, patient stories, blog posts, video script writing, and marketing materials such as direct mail, brochures, and rack cards.
•    Act as lead editor for marketing content for assigned service lines. This includes maintaining working relationships with assigned service line managers, directors, and providers to ensure website content is reviewed annually, remains clinically accurate and up to date. You’ll also consult with service line representatives to identify content opportunities and gaps and provide strategic direction to develop new content that fills those needs.
•    Coordinate with team colleagues to optimize content for SEM, SEO, social media, and user experience.
•    Oversee editing and proofing of all content before publishing. This includes ensuring that the copy is accurate, clean, and clear, and is consistent with our format and style. Content must also contain clear calls to action, and explain medical terms in accurate, plain language.
Manage Content Workflow and Style Guide


•    Use project management skills and a ticketing system to manage the ongoing workflow of content requests, from the research stage through publication. You will also manage the ongoing medical review process to ensure digital content stays accurate and up to date.
•    Manage and maintain style guide across website and print content.

Requirements

The ideal candidate has:
•    Strong writing skills, excellent grammar, and spelling skills, demonstrated attention to detail, research and fact checking. This includes checking documents for appropriate grammar, punctuation, spelling, style, and consistency, according to Duke Health and AP style guide.
•    Experience writing health/medical information for a lay population. 

Candidates who can demonstrate the following qualifications are preferred:
•    Experience communicating, promoting or a demonstrated commitment to principles of diversity, equity, and inclusion.
•    Experience working in content management systems (Drupal knowledge is a plus).
•    Experience with project management (experience with Jira is a plus), time management, prioritizing, organizing, researching, creative thinking and problem solving.
•    Script writing, video production.
•    Proficiency in a second language is a plus.

Required Qualifications

Education
Work requires the ability to perform creative writing and related activities such as conducting interviews and research, and copy editing normally acquired through the attainment of a bachelor's degree in Communications, Journalism, English, or a related discipline. Healthcare communications experience is preferred but not required.
Experience
Work requires four years of directly related writing experience in writing and editing assignments under deadlines.
