Job Summary:


Xavier University of Louisiana is accepting applications for the position of Senior Cloud Infrastructure Administrator. AA/EOE
  • Completes efforts and projects related to cloud infrastructure design, provisioning, operation, security, support, upgrades, monitoring, and maintenance.
  • Manages a multi-account AWS infrastructure
  • Manages VMware Cloud on AWS infrastructure
  • Manages an on-prem VMware cluster (vSphere 8) that hosts non-critical applications and services
  • Manages on-prem Active Directory and Azure AD (Entra ID) infrastructure and monitors the synchronization between these two systems.
  • Establishes standards for resource configurations, monitors configuration compliance, and prevents configuration drift.
  • Analyzes the cloud infrastructure's health, utilization, and performance using available metrics and logs and resolves issues or makes appropriate recommendations.
  • Monitors cloud infrastructure security and compliance using available tools and reports (AWS Security Hub, Amazon GuardDuty, Config, and Inspector).
  • Sets up cross-region backup plans for all critical systems and continually verifies the integrity and usability of backups.
  • Performs disaster recovery testing to ensure the university can meet the recovery time objectives (RTOs) set in the disaster recovery plan.
  • Keeps the disaster recovery plan up to date, takes the lead role during disaster recovery events, and works collaboratively with colleagues to restore mission critical systems as quickly as possible
  • Closely monitors cloud cost drivers and develops cost optimization strategies for cloud computational and storage resources.
  • Uses available automation frameworks (AWS CloudFormation, PowerShell) to perform management tasks efficiently
  • Functions as an expert in all storage needs and computational, backup, and disaster recovery architectures required by mission-critical applications for the university.

  • Minimum Qualifications:


  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Information Technology, or a closely related degree
  • AWS Certified Solutions Architect – Professional certificate
  • 4+ years of experience in AWS cloud administration
  • 10-15 years of system administration or equivalent experience
  • 10 years of administration experience with the Linux operating system
  • 5+ years of administration experience with Microsoft Windows Server
  • Strong troubleshooting skills with the ability and experience to understand an environment (network, hardware, application, database, etc.)
  • Proven experience to quickly troubleshoot and fix complex technical problems
  • Proficient in installing, configuring, and supporting complex Linux infrastructure environments
  • Knowledge of industry-standard best practices for IT support (e.g., ITIL) change control, project management, and software development
  • Proficiency with command line and scripting tools on both Linux and Windows platforms

  • Preferred Qualifications:


  • AWS Certified SysOps Administrator – Associate certificate
  • Experience in managing VMware Cloud, VMware Cloud Disaster Recovery, VMware Ransomware Recovery, and vSphere 8 platform
  • Experience in managing the Microsoft Azure platform, including major services related to computing, storage, network, and security
  • Experience with SIEM tools and log management and analysis
  • Experience with High Performance Computing platforms
  • Time-management skills and the ability to establish reasonable and attainable deadlines for resolution
  • Customer focus and ability to understand customer needs
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Must have interpersonal skills essential when communicating with clients, technical staff, management, and campus leadership
  • Ability to coordinate the activities of a diverse set of technology resources in a matrix environment while performing multiple roles of server and application support, providing technical consultation and project coordination
  • Proven ability to prioritize, organize, and multi-task in a fast-paced environment
  • Proven collaboration & and teamwork abilities; proven initiative, established professionalism and proficiency; basic project management experience, technical documentation skills
