Primary Purpose of Organizational Unit
The UNC Kidney Center’s (UNCKC) mission is to cure kidney disease through discovery surrounding the pathophysiology and therapeutics of kidney disease as well as the development and assessment of kidney disease educational programs for North Carolinians and their primary care physicians. UNCKC research laboratories are funded through a variety of external sources, including NIH R01, T32, U01, R-41, R-44 and K23 awards. Epidemiologic and clinical research in areas including diabetic kidney disease, glomerular disease, patient-reported outcomes, literacy and health outcomes is funded through NIH, PCORI, foundations, private donors and corporate grants.
Position Summary
This position will serve as a Senior Clinical Research Coordinator within the UNC Kidney Center. The Senior Clinical Research Coordinator is responsible for the planning, organization, conduct, and evaluation of multi-faceted clinical research protocols, including study execution, developing strategies and solutions to improve study processes and execution, providing reviews of other team members’ work product, and serving as mentor and subject matter expert. 
The purpose of this position is to assist with a PCORI-funded multi-site, clinic-randomized controlled trial to compare methods for symptom monitoring in patients treated with hemodialysis. The Clinical Research Coordinator will serve as the primary contact for participating sites, serve as the primary manager of the electronic symptom monitoring system (SMaRRT-HD), and travel to participating dialysis clinics throughout the United States to support participant enrollment/retention, intervention implementation, and outcome ascertainment. The CRC will oversee implementation of SMaRRT-HD and specific duties will include providing and refining clinic personnel training on the SMaRRT-HD system and providing (and documenting) technical support to the clinics as needed. The CRC will travel to the 3 SMaRRT-HD optimization clinics to assist with data collection and observe SMaRRT-HD implementation on the ground. The CRC will travel to the 30 randomized clinics to support participant enrollment/retention, SMaRRT-HD implementation, and outcome ascertainment. The CRC will contact and follow up with patients and clinic staff. The CRC may be responsible for providing guidance and coverage for other CRCs in the department. They will be responsible for developing the final SMaRRT-HD implementation guide for clinics and will be the primary contact for UNC PRO Core, the UNC Core supporting SMaRRT-HD.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in a discipline related to the field assigned and one year of related training or experience; or equivalent combination of training and experience. All degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Required Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Strong written and verbal communication skills. Must be able to work and communicate with diverse populations effectively and professionally. Ability to work independently as well as function as part of a team. 
Proficient with Microsoft Outlook, Excel, and Word.
At least 1 year of patient-facing clinical research experience.
Excellent written and oral communication skills, strong interpersonal and organizational problem-solving skills.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, managers, and clients.
Ability to manage competing priorities, including adeptness at time management.
Strong software and computer skills and the ability to troubleshoot
Preferred Qualifications, Competencies, and Experience
Constructive problem solving attitude, ability to create project timelines, ability to multi-task.
 Two or more years of patient-facing clinical research experience. 
Successful experience working directly with project teams to understand project needs and timelines, and then plan, provide and manage the necessary support. 
Experience with a variety of electronic data capture systems. 
Experience working in a fast-paced clinical environment with a complex infrastructure.
Experience working in dialysis clinics.
Special Physical/Mental Requirements
Must be able to travel nationally several times a year. Willingness to respond to off-hour emergencies or questions in the early morning hours (4-6am EST) or in the early evening (6-8pmEST).
