Position Description

A collaboration of the Alfred E. Mann School of Pharmacy and Pharmaceutical Sciences and the Sol Price School of Public Policy , the USC Schaeffer Center’s mission is to measurably improve value in health through evidence-based policy solutions, research excellence, and private and public sector engagement.

The Schaeffer Center is seeking a Senior Business Officer II to lead the Center’s business operations and provide strategic oversight of all accounting, budgeting, and financial activities. This position will also provide high-level oversight of the Center’s research grant administration processes in conjunction with the Price and Mann Schools. 

Key duties/areas of oversight include but are not limited to the following:

  • Accounting and Financial Operations: Overseeing the processing of transactions at the Center; preparing high-level (regular and special) financial reports for the Center’s leadership as well as other internal and external parties; and developing and implementing internal financial policies and procedures.

  • Budget Administration: Overseeing the planning and developing of short and long term budgets, including the annual data recharge budget; providing projections and forecasts to the Center’s leadership; and determining corrective actions as needed.

  • Personnel/Payroll/Facilities Administration: Overseeing and coordinating employment compensation and benefits with the respective Schools’ Human Resources departments and planning and overseeing the administration of the Center’s facilities, equipment, and space utilization.

Minimum Education:

Bachelor’s Degree

Combined experience/education as substitute for minimum education

Minimum Experience:

7 years

Minimum Fields of Expertise:

  • Thorough knowledge of fund accounting

  • Knowledge of University financial policies, procedures, and systems

  • Excellent Excel and database skills

Compensation

The annual base salary range for this position is $180,847 - $208,495. When extending an offer of employment, the University of Southern California considers factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s work experience, education/training, key skills, internal peer equity, federal, state, and local laws, contractual stipulations, grant funding, as well as external market and organizational considerations.

Since its establishment in 2009, the USC Schaeffer Center for Health Policy and Economics has served as an intellectual hub for health policy and health economics research at USC.
