About the Position

 

A Senior BI Analytics Engineer, StAS Compliance partners with various enterprise data stewards to maintain the StAS Compliance environment and support enterprise level data projects. An individual also supports the BI Analysts who partner with functional areas, such as Financial Aid Operations and the Office of Admissions and Records, to evaluate financial aid (federal, state and VA) compliance and process needs, and designs, develops and delivers automated solutions using SQL query development to address those needs. An individual leads or provides guidance in large-scale, complex projects to develop, revise or enhance automated analytics that lead to greater regulatory, policy and/or process compliance. A Sr BI Analytics Engineer, StAS Compliance clearly documents, communicates, tests and validates all solutions, projects and workflows to ensure that business and compliance requirements are met before implementations, and monitors the health of the StAS Compliance environment and integrity of automated reports.


What You’ll Do:

1. Maintain strong connections w/ the enterprise data council, enterprise data platform Product team, and Information Security. Partner w/ enterprise data platform Product team to enhance StAS Compliance environment, summarize ideas for potential integration into core data infrastructure and support enterprise data projects. Partner with other Product family teams to implement ETL, reporting and analytic solutions. Provide consultation related to financial aid or other specialized data sets. 

2. Lead the delivery of complex automated QA solutions across various platforms used across multiple functional areas of the University. Design value-added analyses and reporting for all customers, including KPIs and critical success factors for services and processes. Develop recommendations for problem resolution and/or process enhancements.

3. Collaborate w/ data stewards, DBAs and business partners to understand the data domain and design effective compliance analytic solutions. Examine data and determine trends and/or opportunities to ensure StAS Compliance BI Analysts utilize the highest quality data sources to support business requirements. Lead sessions with subject matter experts and business leaders to understand analytic and reporting requirements; facilitate research and design with StAS BI Analysts.

4. Document standards and best practices for StAS BI Analysts. Lead efforts to review and recommend improvements to reporting and processes, including creation of new reporting templates and analytical reports. Drive continuous improvements of the developed methods.

5. Analyze, interpret and report production performance and compliance trends from various platforms and functional areas; identify areas performing outside of expected results; provide status updates to leadership and estimates for development of new, or enhancement of existing, reporting. Refine and optimize the implemented data processing methods.

6. Define testing requirements, stage data and perform final test execution to ensure compliance and/or business needs are met; support QA and control efforts via data analysis as part of pre- and post-implementation reviews for automated analytic projects.

7. Maintain reports and dashboards running in production. Perform maintenance and update configuration of StAS Compliance servers. Monitor production for performance degradation and implement mitigation technologies to ensure timely resolution and reporting to key stakeholders. Stand up a StAS Compliance specific data warehouse as needed for business continuity in emergency situations. Install software, hardware, and firmware or perform system administration responsibilities, as required.

8. Provide direction and/or support to less experienced personnel; increase their understanding of more complex business processes to assist with designing and completing requested reporting.

9. Prototype, develop and implement the next generation of StAS Compliance products allowing StAS BI Analysts or business users to access data seamlessly. Promote and guide the growth and maturity of advanced StAS Compliance analytics. Support the development of machine learning models.

10. Bring unique skills (e.g. C#, SharePoint, Access, Flows, Power BI, Power Apps, RPA, Lambda) to the team and offer creative solutions that align with team goals. Maintain and increase professional and technical knowledge through participation in professional workshops, networks and other relevant activities.

11. Perform other duties as assigned or apparent.

MINIMUM EDUCATION AND RELATED WORK EXPERIENCE:

• Bachelor's degree in technology related field OR completion of IT/Coding SQL Bootcamp, plus four (4) years of relevant work experience in a data science, data engineer, or a SQL developer capacity; OR

• Eight (8) years of relevant work experience in a data science, data engineer, or SQL developer capacity

• At least three (3) years of experience above must include writing SQL (T-SQL and/or PL/SQL preferred), working with AWS S3, Redshift, Kafka

ADDITIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:

• Experience in the higher education Industry, particularly financial aid and financial aid compliance

• Functional knowledge of source applications such as Oracle Financial Aid System

• An understanding of Agile and similar methodologies

• Experience working with project tracking software such as TFS or Git

• Comfortable in cloud computing environments (AWS, Azure, GCP)

• Strong analytical and research skills

• Strong documentation and communication skills

• Strong problem solving, time management and organizational skills

• Excellent interpersonal skills to effectively build rapport

• Experience serving as a resource, mentor and coach less experienced team members

• Easily adapt to and embrace a fast moving and rapidly changing work environment

• Demonstrate a growth mindset and exhibit a highly collaborative workstyle

Pay Range


The annual pay range for this position is $69,400 (minimum), $104,900 (midpoint), and $140,400 (maximum).*


*Typical hiring range is between the minimum and midpoint of the above pay range. Actual starting base pay may vary based on factors such as education, experience, skills, location and budget.
