Senior Associate - Center on Privacy & Technology - Georgetown University Law Center

Georgetown Law’s Center on Privacy & Technology has grown since its founding in 2014. It now operates under an annual budget of over $1 million and has multiple research projects in motion at any given time. As the Center grows, it has developed a need to create higher-level positions with greater autonomy that can manage research programs on their own. We therefore have senior associate roles to independently manage the Center’s research and advocacy program on a key issue area the Center’s focus. These have included but are not limited to face recognition, immigrant surveillance, worker privacy, and commercial data practices.

Job Overview

The Senior Associate will design and develop the strategy, policy and processes associated with a Center key issue area. This person will identify original research areas; conduct research; pitch ideas for and present at practical and academic conferences; provide substantial communications support, including fielding media inquiries; develop advocacy ideas and options for review and decision by Center directors and faculty; write reports, white papers, and media pieces for publication; and evaluate effectiveness of our research & advocacy programs on an ongoing basis.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation

The Senior Associate is overseen by and reports to the Center’s Director of Research & Advocacy. In turn, they assist with oversight of student research assistants who contribute to the program; and collaborate closely with other members of the organization.

This position has been designated as Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.  Such review may necessitate a change to a position’s mode of work designation. Requirements and Qualifications

  • Juris Doctorate or an advanced degree
  • At least 3 to 7 years of experience of experience working in law, policy, advocacy, or research
  • A demonstrable interest in and commitment to the Center’s mission
