The positions are open to ECU students older than 18 years old who want to make a difference in communities throughout eastern North Carolina.
Public Science Facilitators work with university personnel, community organizations, and individuals from throughout eastern North Carolina to develop and lead science activities with the general public. In particular, you will lead the Community Water Network program to engage the public in environmental issues through measurements, educational programs, and planning for community events that engage people of all ages and backgrounds. Working with project personnel, facilitators will also conduct training sessions, assist with a summer camp, and support environmental research activities.
As a Public Science Facilitator and leader of the Community Water Network program, you will:
- Facilitate training and mentorship of community members who join the Community Water Network
- Coordinate activities with Community Liaisons and fellow Facilitators to create programming that will be of interest to community members and recruit participants for that programming.
- Manage environmental sampling “toolkits” and data for the program, develop data products (e.g., maps/infographics), and coordinate with other staff to conduct analyses or other research activities.
- Plan and host community meetings, trainings, or other community engagement events and coordinate with faculty to implement data collection strategies at those events.
- Coordinate with communications staff, community organizations, and community partners throughout the watershed to advertise the Network and relevant training sessions.
- Undergo all appropriate training to work with youth and follow best practices for youth safety.
- Assist with summer community science camps.
- Report to program leaders, community partners, and other project participants.
Review of applications will begin on February 29th and will continue until the positions are filled.
