Normal Work Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:30am to 4:30pm; some nights, evenings, & weekends


Job Summary:  The Security Systems Technician I performs skilled work in the installation, maintenance, repair or operation of access control systems, security systems, CCTV systems, and electronics.


Additional Department Summary: The Security Technologies Technician I performs skilled electronics related tasks at construction and renovation sites and existing facilities under varied light conditions, temperature extremes, and variations in noise pollution, heights, and / or other related hazardous condition.


Required Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or GED and two (2) years of electrical or electronics experience; OR vocational/technical/trade school and one (1) year of experience an electrical or electronic trade environment; OR associate's degree or higher in electronics technology or electrical engineering.


Additional Required Department Minimum Qualifications: Must have valid U.S. driver's license. Must be at least 19 years of age at time of hire and have an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report that is in compliance with University policies. Applicants under the age of 21 will have some driving restrictions.

Final candidates who are not current University of Alabama employees must successfully complete a criminal history check, detailed background investigation, and upon a conditional job offer must successfully complete a drug screen.

Must be Lenel Certified Level 1 (Core Training) and Certified Alarm Technician Level I or obtain within 24 months of hire date.


Skills and Knowledge: Good verbal and written communication skills. Good planning and organizing skills. Detail orientation. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Ability to use industry standard hand tools at all heights, in lift trucks, in tight spaces, etc. Ability to lift, handle, and maneuver the tools, materials, and supplies of the job. Working knowledge of test equipment such as multi-meters, digital analyzers, battery analyzers, frequency meter, decibel meters, and communicating devices. Ability to read, understand, and follow plans, specifications, blueprints/floor plans, and instructions.


Preferred Qualifications: Experience working with Lenel, GE security, Avigilon video, Bold security, and ASSA Abloy door products. Two (2) years of experience in an electrical trade environment; OR associate’s degree in electronics technology, electrical engineering, or related field and two (2) years of experience in an electrical trade environment.
