The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", Department of Public Safety and Security has an exciting opportunity for a Security Officer – Dispatcher. The Security Officer- Dispatcher provides a safe and secure environment for students, staff, customers, visitors, and persons conducting business in an assigned facility by continually looking for situations that could interrupt the normal business flow and taking immediate steps to eliminate the risk.   Additionally, the Security Officer 3 engages in loss and crime prevention activities to protect University assets.                                                                                       

  • Controls building access and property removal. Maintains civil law and order and assists in prevention of damage due to fire, theft or negligent acts. 

  • Responds to all building alarm signals and protects vehicles parked in University parking spaces.

  • Assists in monitoring failure or malfunction of electrical and utility systems.

  • Detects and reports campus safety problems. 

  • Takes remedial and corrective steps and notifies management for all abnormal conditions. 

  • Prepares accurate and up-to-date reports.

  • Assists staff, students, patients, and visitors by providing directions and other relevant assistance.

  • Monitors unauthorized individuals and escorts them from the premises or calls the police.

  • Adheres to University and unit-level policies and procedures and safeguards University assets.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:                                                                                                         

  • High School diploma or equivalent

  • Minimum 5 years of relevant experience

  • Valid State of Florida driver’s license

  • Ability to operate a motor vehicle

  • Skill in completing assignments accurately and with attention to detail.

  • Must be punctual, dependable, ability to stay calm under high stressful situations and be able to multi-task.

  • Excellent customer service skills required to handle all levels of personnel, patients, and visitors.

  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills in English.

  • Ability to analyze, organize and prioritize work under pressure while meeting deadlines.

  • Ability to process and handle confidential information with discretion.

  • Ability to work evenings, nights, and weekends as necessary.

  • Commitment to the University’s core values.

  • Ability to work independently and/or in a collaborative environment.

  • Proficiency in computer software (i.e., Microsoft Office).
