Overview	The School of Environmental and Biological Sciences, located on the George H. Cook Campus, is one of the largest schools of Rutgers University in New Brunswick, New Jersey. We pursue excellence in research, teaching, and outreach in areas of study that address the biological spectrum from molecules to ecosystems. Our emphasis is on both the fundamental sciences and the social and human dimensions. We offer 21 undergraduate majors, including plant and animal sciences, microbiology, biotechnology, agriculture and food systems, landscape architecture, food and nutritional sciences, ecology and evolution, marine science and oceanography, environmental sciences and meteorology, human ecology, entomology, and environmental economics. In addition to instruction in the classroom, field, and laboratory, our students have opportunities for experiential learning on and off campus, including a growing emphasis on international experiences through short- and long-term study abroad. Students also have access to a robust program of applied research and outreach hosted by the New Jersey Agricultural Experiment Station laboratories, farms, business incubators, and marine stations throughout the state.
Posting Summary	Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey is seeking a Seasonal Marine Field Worker for the School of Environmental and Biological Sciences. Among the key duties of the position are the following: Execution of a variety of marine field and laboratory techniques. Field techniques include trawling, trapping, gill netting, and ichthyoplankton sampling. Laboratory techniques include fish rearing, fish dissections, fish identification and enumeration (larval and juvenile) via microscope. Collection and entry of field data and preparation of documents and reports including charts, graphs and tables.

Qualifications

Minimum Education and Experience	For entry-level positions, no experience is required.
Certifications/Licenses	Must possess or be willing to obtain NJ Safe Boating certification and defensive driving certification.
Preferred Qualifications	Bachelor’s degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or field research experience carrying out research protocols and tests.
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities	Ability to prepare documents and reports accurately, write concisely, express thoughts clearly, communicate effectively, and develop ideas in a logical sequence. Demonstrated ability with software applications such as spreadsheets, ARC GIS and databases. Ability to follow guidelines and procedures. Ability to organize, multi-task and prioritize tasks. Ability to operate small vessels under difficult conditions. Ability to work some weekends, early morning and evenings as needed.

Physical Demands and Work Environment	Must be able to travel to remote locations for sampling, conduct outdoor field work in sometimes harsh weather conditions, and work some weekends, early mornings and evenings as needed.
