Physical Requirements
The position will involve strenuous field work in inclement weather, heat, and cold. It will also require lifting and moving heavy objects up to 50 lbs.
Shift
Monday – Friday, 8:30 am – 5:00 pm, with longer days in the fields and potential for weekend work when necessary.
Job Summary
The Department of Plant and soil Sciences in the Martin-Gatton College of Agriculture, Food, and Environment works towards developing sustainable food and crop production practices in Kentucky. Corn, soybean and wheat account for roughly 45% of annual agriculture cash receipts in Kentucky. The Scientist I position is key to the laboratory management, experiment coordination, data analysis, and reporting results within the University of Kentucky and outside partnerships. Responsibilities will include involvement in designing, establishing, and maintaining grain crops research conducted throughout Kentucky; analyzing data with appropriate statistical methods and summarizing research reports; developing tables and modelling to effectively communicate research findings; coordinating research efforts with other faculty, staff, graduate students and undergraduate students involved in research. Skills / Knowledge / Abilities
Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook. Knowledge of crop modeling, and data and image processing software is preferred.
