Description

 

The University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB), Department of Med - Pulmonary/Allergy/Critical Care, is seeking a Scientist I. This position is responsible for planning, coordinating, and performing scientific research projects and experiments independently, high quality data collection, protocol adherence, analysis and interpretation of data, and equipment supervision and maintenance.

 

General Responsibilities

  • To employ a broad knowledge of principles, practices and procedures in a particular field of specialization.
  • To plan, coordinate and conduct research.

 

Key Duties & Responsibilities  

  • Plans, coordinates and conducts scientific research requiring judgment in the independent evaluation, selection, and substantial adaptation and modification of standard scientific techniques.
  • Carries projects to completion and trains employees and students.
  • Designs, performs and/or oversees experiments and data collection to ensure data integrity, quality control and protocol compliance.
  • Collects and may analyze/interprets data.
  • Prepares statistical and narrative reports and/or graphs.
  • Supervises and/or performs equipment maintenance, operations and quality control procedures.
  • Performs and/or oversees new research procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

    Annual Salary Range   $63,125.00 - $103,700

     

    Qualifications

     
    • Doctor of Philosophy, D.V.M. or M.D. degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience  
    • OR  M.D. and Master's degree.  
    • OR  Master's degree and four (4) years of related experience  
    • OR  Bachelor's degree and six (6) years of related experience 

    Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement

     

    Preferences

    • IRB-GCP training is required and can be completed upon hiring.
    • Computer skills and ability to use lab-based software.
    • Able to work in a lab setting efficiently.
