Position Overview:

Atlanta Metropolitan State College (AMSC) is seeking a highly motivated and dedicated individual to join our team as a Part-Time Science Instructor for the TRIO Upward Bound program. This position offers a unique opportunity to make a positive impact on the lives of high school students in the Atlanta area, providing them with the educational support and inspiration they need to excel in the field of science.

About TRIO Upward Bound:

TRIO Upward Bound is a federally funded program designed to help high school students from disadvantaged backgrounds prepare for and succeed in college. Our mission is to provide academic support, mentorship, and guidance to students who have the potential to succeed in postsecondary education but may face barriers to achieving their goals.

As a Part-Time Science Instructor for TRIO Upward Bound, your responsibilities will include:

1. Teaching Science Courses: Develop and deliver engaging science lessons, workshops, and activities to high school students, focusing on subjects such as biology, chemistry, physics, and environmental science.

2. Individualized Support: Provide one-on-one and small-group tutoring to students, addressing their specific academic needs and helping them overcome challenges in their science coursework.

3. Mentorship: Serve as a mentor and role model, offering guidance and support to students as they navigate the college application process, explore STEM career opportunities, and set academic and career goals.

4. Curriculum Development: Collaborate with program coordinators to develop and adapt curriculum materials to meet the needs and interests of the Upward Bound students.

5. Monitoring and Assessment: Track student progress, assess their academic performance, and provide regular feedback to help them improve their science knowledge and skills.

6. Cultural Competency: Demonstrate cultural sensitivity and an understanding of the diverse backgrounds and experiences of Upward Bound students.

To be successful in this role, you should possess the following qualifications:

- A bachelor's degree or higher in a relevant science field (e.g., biology, chemistry, physics, environmental science).

- Experience working with high school students, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to build positive relationships with students and colleagues.

- A passion for science education and a commitment to fostering a supportive learning environment.

- Knowledge of college admissions and financial aid processes is a plus.

$30.00 / Hour.
