Position Information

Dr. Tuppett Yates is seeking 3-4 part-time (10-18 hours a week) lab assistants to begin in January 2024. The duration for each position is six months with the opportunity for renewal based on funding, department needs, and performance. Dr. Yates’ Adversity and Adaptation Lab studies risk and resilience among adversity-exposed youth using both quantitative and qualitative approaches with multi-level data, including youth narratives, caregiver-youth interaction observations, and biomarkers of stress reactivity and regulation. Lab assistants may be involved in multiple aspects of research including participant recruitment and screening, data collection, coding behavioral tasks and narrative data, and analysis of behavioral, narrative, and biomarker data. Opportunities for co-authoring conference presentations and manuscripts may also be available. Lab assistants will also have administrative duties, including coordinating team meetings, managing research assistant activities, and maintaining study databases and lab documentation. The position is ideal for motivated individuals interested in pursuing an advanced degree in developmental psychology, clinical psychology, or related fields.

The full salary range for the Lab Assistant is $19.43 - $22.49 per hour. However, the expected pay scale for this position is $19.43 - $20.87 per hour.

We base salary offers on a variety of considerations, such as education, licensure and certifications, experience, and other business and organizational needs.

As a university employee, you will be required to comply with all applicable University policies and/or collective bargaining agreements, as may be amended from time to time. Federal, state, or local government directives may impose additional requirements.

Minimum of 1 year of laboratory experience or two years of college courses in the natural, physical or social sciences and laboratory experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; and knowledge and abilities essential to the successful performance of the duties assigned to the position. Experience recruiting or scheduling data from human participants. Preferred
Experience conducting independent research in psychology. Preferred
Experience collecting behavioral data from human participants. Preferred
Minimum Requirements

Detail-oriented with outstanding organizational and time management skills
Strong written and verbal communication skills
Demonstrated background and passion for research experience in psychology


Preferred Qualifications

Proficiency in conducting statistical analyses with SPSS, R, or another statistical package

Ability to occasionally work on an evening or weekend to assist in the recruitment of participants or to collect study data

Computer skills and experience working with quantitative and qualitative data management programs (e.g., SPSS, Dedoose, R, Excel)
