7:00 am – 3:30 pm; Monday – Friday with occasional evening and weekend hours required, as necessary.
Mandatory Position
This position is designated as ‘mandatory’ and, when contacted to report to work, its incumbent is expected to reach the building as expeditiously as possible using normal precautions as dictated by the adverse weather conditions.
Primary Purpose of Position
This is a Facility Maintenance Technician (Mechanical Trades) entry-level. The position is considered to be fully functioning in a particular trade area. Additionally, this position is expected to be able to perform all general maintenance work at tan entry level. This position may also be given the opportunity to perform/learn another trade discipline. Tasks may include maintenance, repair, placement, fabrication, installation, alteration, construction, and design of facility components in assigned zones.
Minimum Education/Experience
Required Minimum Qualifications:
Graduation from high school or equivalent. Experience in the trade(s) areas related to the position’s role may be substituted on a year-for-year basis.

Essential Job Duties
1. Responsible for assessment of building HVAC conditions and performing proper resolution methods.
2. Assist Advanced level technicians in the repair and installation of commercial HVAC systems.
3. Responsible for performing routine maintenance to ensure that building HVAC systems continue to run smoothly, building systems operate efficiently, and/or the physical condition of building HVAC components does not deteriorate.
4. Use electrical test devices to troubleshoot control circuits.
5. Diagnose mechanical problems and determine how to correct them, checking blueprints, repair manuals, or parts catalogs as necessary.
Other Work Responsibilities
1. Act as a contributing worker and assist other facility maintenance technicians.
2. Work with supervision or instruction, and complete work with competence and professionalism in compliance with generally accepted trade practices.
3. Communicate effectively with customers, and managers, and provide high-quality customer service based on University policy and procedures.
4. Record daily activities in an order tracking system (Archibus).
5. Perform other duties as assigned and/or delegated to support all operations.
Departmental Preferred Experience, Skills, Training/Education
1. High school diploma or GED equivalency.
2. Associate’s degree from an accredited institution in HVAC or Engineering Technology preferred.
3. Experience in the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration equipment preferred.
4. E.P.A. 608 Refrigerant certification preferred.
5. Ability to effectively communicate the English language (reading, writing, interpretation, and comprehension).
6. Effective skills in verbal, written, and interpersonal communication.
7. Computer literate.
8. Knowledge and skill with Google Chrome, Microsoft Word, and Excel, and willingness to learn new programs.
9. Ability to effectively work/interact with persons from different backgrounds.
10. Ability to foster and create an atmosphere of teamwork.
11. The selected candidate must have the mental and physical capabilities to perform the essential functions of the position with or without reasonable accommodations.
Necessary Licenses or Certifications
A valid driver’s license. This position requires the operation of assigned vehicles on and/or off campus and is required to possess, maintain, or obtain a valid driver’s license upon appointment to the position.
Positions may be required to possess and maintain required certification, licensure, educational level, and/or experience criteria as applicable to the tasks being performed and follow applicable building codes.
