Department Description
The Department of Molecular Biosciences serves as the academic home for all nutritional, physiological chemistry, and pharmacologic and toxicologic programs of the School of Veterinary Medicine at UC Davis. Our goal is to study fundamental biological processes and their perturbations by mutations, nutrition, drugs and xenobiotics and the application of these to the improvement of animal and human health. Faculty participate in a number of graduate groups including Genetics, Microbiology, Neurosciences, Nutritional Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular, Cellular & Developmental Biology, and Pharmacology & Toxicology. The department also contributes substantially to school and campus initiatives in Environmental and Human Health and also shares responsibility for the Clinical Pharmacology, Clinical Toxicology, and Clinical Nutrition Programs, including the Nutrition Service at the VMTH.
The Research Admin 3 is responsible for the management of the administrative operations across multiple grants, cooperative agreements, and business contracts of diverse scope. The Research Admin is responsible for keeping faculty, staff, and subcontractors in compliance with the requirements and restrictions of awards and agreements, assisting third parties including UCOP and Federal Offices/Agencies with shifting priorities.
Job Summary
With a high level of independence, responsible for the fiscal control, accounting and reporting of all levels of contracts and grants awarded in support of research, training and public service programs; responsible for the management of the administrative operations across multiple grants, cooperative agreements, and business contracts of diverse scope and Self-Supporting Units within the department. Responsible for analyzing, monitoring, preparing, and reconciling financial information to provide financial and statistical data for the control of contract and grant operations. Prepares financial reports to meet internal and external requirements. Analyzes data and reviews of a variety of factors and documents. Exercises judgment within accounting procedures and practices to identify appropriate action. Attends training workshops for present and future career development.

    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
    Minimum License/Certification:
  • Certified Research Administrator (CRA), or ability to obtain certification within a 12-month time period from date of appointment.
    Minimum Education/Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in business, accounting, finance, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience in developing recharge rates and managing self-supporting units and activities. Critical thinking and problem-solving skills to analyze complex data and develop meaningful solutions to specific problems.
    Minimum Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Thorough understanding of research administration guidelines of Federal and non-Federal sponsors supporting research and educational activities, preferably in a university environment. Knowledge of federal, state, and private grant budgeting guidelines and Generally Accepted Accounting Principles.
  • Ability to independently perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting and skill and knowledge to analyze the quantitative aspects of fiscal and budgetary issues. Demonstrated knowledge of effective grant funding process, procedures, and techniques.
  • Analytical skills to independently and proficiently assume responsibility for coordination and completion of complex projects requiring interactions with many internal and external parties in a large organizational structure including Organizational skills to independently determine workload priorities and set timetables to meet deadlines, goals, and objectives.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate, both in person and in writing with ability to maintain a customer service focus across broad and diverse subject areas.
    PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
    Preferred Education/Experience:
  • Experience working with contracts and grants on the UC Davis campus or within a large university system.
    Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA):
  • Knowledge of federal and private compliance regulations governing grant budgeting, financial reporting, cost-sharing standards, cost allocation, and policies regarding use of grant funds.
  • Expert level knowledge of UC policies and procedures.
  • Skills to independently manage a significant volume of transactions.
  • Ability to perform complex financial analysis and customized reporting.
  • Work flexible schedule, as needed.
