Position Highlights University Facility Services is looking for an experienced Roofer (Roofer II) to join our team. Specifically, we are looking for an experienced, skilled and knowledgeable roofer to install, maintain, and repair a variety of roofing systems including: Self-Adhered, hot asphalt, cold -process, shingles, tile, single-ply, gravel and metal roofs. Good working knowledge of all aspects of the craft that will enable sound decision making at the job site.

Working conditions may include extreme temperatures, and dirty, smelly, wet conditions. Requires frequent climbing and lifting. This position requires the candidate to come in during off hours if needed to repair roofs during monsoon storms. The ideal candidate will possess a confidence in and an enthusiasm for the roofing trade; and will have a good working knowledge of all aspects of the craft that will enable sound decision making at the job site. We are looking for a self-motivated employee who can hit the ground running.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Provides excellent customer service and communicates effectively.
  • Provide roof maintenance and roof inspections on routine schedule which includes cleaning roof surfaces and gutters of debris through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Provide roof maintenance and roof inspections on routine schedule which includes repairing cracks and blisters; caulking cracks; correcting misaligned tiles and defective flashing through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Applies and repairs reflective coatings through our Preventative Maintenance program.
  • Utilize safety equipment to perform all work duties in a safe manner.
  • Responds to leak calls and fix issues.
  • Build-Up Pounding areas.
  • Moisture-proofs stem walls, foundation walls and planters.
  • Apply Walk deck materials to create safe slip resistant walking surfaces on stairs, landings, and ramps.
  • Maintains and replaces all heat tape/mats relative to roof structure.
  • Maintains and stocks repair materials for several different roofing systems.
  • Maintain University vehicles by keeping them clean, stocked, and minor maintenance including checking tire pressure, fluids and exterior conditions of the vehicle.
  • Maintain University Tools by keeping them clean, performing minor maintenance when needed and performing safety inspections on items including Hand tools, Power tools, ladders, dollies, and other tools as needed.
  • Maintain and keep clean the University provided uniforms.
  • Maintain and keep clean the shop and storage for roof shop.
  • Maintain communication with the roof shop and other facilities shops.
Minimum Qualifications
  • Experience Minimum Qualifications: Minimum of 3 years of relevant experience required.
  • Education Minimum Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent, or equivalent learning attained through experience required. Journeyman level position. Completion of a high school education or an equivalent combination of apprenticeship program, technical training and/or experience.
  • Possession of a current Arizona Type D driver's license upon employment and Ability to drive according to the University Fleet Safety Policy.
  • Experience with roofing systems such as Self-Adhered, hot asphalt, cold -process, shingles, tile, single-ply gravel and metal roofs.
  • Minimum of 3 years driving experience.
  • Experience driving and operating forklift.
  • Experience driving and operating forward reach and scissor lifts.
  • Experience operating coating sprayer(s).
  • Experience operating pressure washer.
  • Ability to lift 50-70 lbs.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Have demonstrated basic computer skills.
  • Demonstrated skills in basic estimating/budgeting.
