Position Summary
The RLHO Graduate Assistant is considered essential personnel and works under the supervision of the Residence Life & Housing Operations (RLHO) full-time staff to support students and student staff by providing a holistic, high-quality residential living experience. Expectations include ability to recruit, train, and mentor student staff on community policies, operational procedures, crisis response, and professional development.
As a 12-month live-in leadership member, the GA-Residential Experience is primarily responsible for resident recognition, roommate conflicts, and intentional interactions within the residential community at UIW (in conjunction with full-time staff).
This position is considered a “Responsible Employee” under Title IX federal regulations and “Mandatory Reporter” under Texas state law and The UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy. As a Mandatory Reporter, this position requires you as the employee to promptly report any incident that you witness or receive information about violating Title IX. These reporting responsibilities are set out in the UIW Sexual Misconduct Policy.
Essential Functions
Participate in (i) recruitment, training, and mentorship of Resident Assistants and Office Assistants. (ii) residential move-in, transfer, and move-out processes, (iii) advertising & promoting residential culture, and (iv) on-call crisis response rotation.
GA-Residential Experience
  • Oversee comprehensive reports regarding student recognition and culture opportunities for holistic student development such as mediations, interactions, social media, and follow-ups.
  • Serve as a liaison for resident disputes and concerns with different departmental entities, ensuring resource provision and retention efforts within the residential community.
  • Assist with marketing the residential experience through Cardinal Resident Council, Of the Month & Spotlights, and Resident Assistant to Resident experience.
  • Other duties including, but not limited to: routine department processes, data entry & review into employee databases, weekly staff meetings, fire drills and safety inspections, department software initiatives & committees, serve on weekday/weekend/holiday on-call rotation, and office duties as assigned

Qualifications


Knowledge Skills and Abilities
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Products; Access, Excel, Adobe Creative Suite
  • Excellent communication, leadership, time management, and organizational skills.
  • Ability to take initiative and work independently of direct supervision;
  • Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
  • Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
  • Minimum bachelors degree
  • Current UIW graduate student or enrolled in a UIW graduate program by start of employment.

  • Understanding of student development theory and application in a residential setting
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Valid Texas driver’s license with the ability to be insured through UIW’s vehicle insurance carrier

Part-Time, 25 hours a week
