Posting Summary
TThe Retro-Commissioning Engineer serves as a key contributor to the delivery of commissioning services for University projects to optimize existing building operations. Assist in commissioning services as needed on new construction. Key areas of responsibility include bringing a building back to its original operational design standards, maintaining top levels of building performance, and identifying new opportunities for improvement (i.e. strategically and effectively revitalizing an older building). Systematically evaluate all the systems of a building and determine best sequences for building operations. Recommend implementation of simple fixes, such as recalibrating a thermostat, or more extensive renovations as needed, which may involve a re-engineering effort. Responsible for evaluating all building systems which includes building mechanical and electrical systems with an emphasis on HVAC, lighting, chillers, electric motors, pumping systems, building controls, compressed air, variable frequency drives and waste heat recovery as building needs change over time. Lead data-driven analysis of energy savings potential by conducting building energy audits and performing energy modeling of facilities. Utilize industry standards and creative thinking to advise on retrofit and upgrade strategies through comprehensive reports/proposals detailing analytical findings. Manage, design, and recommend implementation of data management software/tools and strategies to optimize and continuously measure/monitor/trend building performance. Oversee project budgets and assign resources to projects in a cost-efficient manner. Promote a workplace that encourages safety in the shop and in the field. Actively engage in learning and practicing principles of social justice and inclusion, environmental sustainability and delivering great customer experience.
Minimum Qualifications (or equivalent combination of education and experience)
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or other Engineering field and two to five years of systems commissioning experience for facilities construction projects required. In-depth knowledge of the building design and construction industry with expertise in the building commissioning process required. Experience in the construction and commissioning of large projects of varying complexity required. Technical knowledge of HVAC and building systems required to evaluate and test the system performance. Effective written and oral communications skills required. Quantitative, analytical, and problem resolution skills required. Valid driver’s license or ability to obtain and drivers check required. Initial employment contingent upon successful completion of background check.
Desirable Qualifications
Total facilities commissioning experience; Certified Commissioning Professional or other commissioning certification.
Experience in educational or institutional environment.
