Respiratory Therapy Clinical Manager

Reporting directly to the Program Director, Respiratory Therapy is responsible for the development and implementation of the clinical education requirements of the Respiratory Therapy program and works closely with the Program Director to ensure it achieves the overall program objectives, goals and outcomes; maintains clinical sites, contractual agreements and assists with securing new clinical affiliations. Provides professional leadership and support for clinical teaching faculty; serves as a mentor and facilitator for faculty assigned; and enables an environment which fosters creativity, responsiveness, and self-responsibility. Oversees, supervises and manages faculty and students assigned to clinical sites, makes phone or on site visits, mediates conflicts, establishes specific learning objectives, records attendance, and supervises clinical affiliations to ensure that the experience is adequate and achieves a satisfactory level of performance.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

  • Maintains contracts between American Career College and quality clinical sites, including obtaining renewal signatures, explaining unique requirements of a clinical site, and terminating contracts with clinic sites unable to provide appropriate clinical education. Notifies COARC (Commission on Accreditation for Respiratory Care) upon termination or addition of clinical sites.
  • Places, monitors and supervises all student clinical assignments, ensuring that all program clinical educational objectives are met.
  • Identifies clinical sites which support the student clinical requirements.
  • Assists with identifying and developing new professional relationships for additional/new clinical sites.
  • Develops and maintains professional working relationships with hospital, medical office, and clinical site directors under current contract to the schools.
  • Maintains on-going contact with existing contracts and ensures positive long-term relationships with employers.
  • Maintains accurate clinical site information database, including contact information and specific contractual agreement termination and expiration dates, and initiates renewal process timely.

Experience and Skills:

  • Knowledgeable of medical community and established relationships with its professional members preferred.
  • Minimum of two (2) years of experience working with or in clinical sites, placing students, and coordinating related documents preferred.

Required Education, Certifications, and Licensures:

  • High school graduate or equivalent required.
  • A minimum of a baccalaureate degree from an academic institution accredited by a regional or national accrediting agency that is recognized by the U.S. Department of Education (USDE).
  • Must be a graduate from a program accredited by an agency recognized by the U.S. Secretary of Education or the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA) or an otherwise recognized training entity (e.g., hospital- based program) in the specialty field or subject area.
  • Current Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) and Respiratory Care Practitioner (RCP) State and/or National programmatic certification/licensure required.
  • Current CPR Card.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • Must have a minimum of four (4) years teaching or occupational experience as a Registered Respiratory Therapist, of which at least two (2) years must include experience in clinical respiratory care.
  • Must have a minimum of two (2) years of experience in teaching in an accredited respiratory care program either as an appointed faculty member or as a clinical preceptor.
