Description


At UCLA Health, our respiratory therapists deliver comprehensive breathing care to people at every stage of life. We offer advanced evaluation, treatment, and prevention of breathing problems. Our specialists ensure you have the best possible respiratory care, typically during critical illness, heart disease, or pulmonary (lung) disease.

As a member of our Respiratory Therapy team, you’ll engage in both routine and complex procedures for adults, children, and infants in critical care settings, including the Emergency Department and intensive care units throughout our Health System. Flexibility is key, as you may rotate between different areas and shifts. Supervision will be conducted by the Clinical Shift Supervisor or the relief Clinical Shift Supervisor (based at Westwood, with assistance from the Area Clinical Specialist), or the NICU Clinical Supervisor (exclusive to SMH), operating under general oversight.

The Pay Rate is $61.98 / hour. This position may convert to a career.

Preferred:

·         Willing to learn routine and interventional pulmonology (IP) bronchoscopy’s

 

Educational Requirements:

·         Associate degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar – Required

·         Bachelor’s Degree in Respiratory Therapy or similar – Preferred

 

Licenses/Certifications:

·         RCP State License-in the state of California – Required

·         Registered Respiratory Therapist (RRT) by the National Board of Respiratory Care (NBRC) – Required        

·         CPR: American Heart Association Basic Life Support Certification (BLS) – Required

·         Pediatrics Advanced Life Support (PALS) – Required

·         NRP – Preferred/Required for NICU

·         Advanced Cardiovascular Life Support (ACLS) – Preferred

 

Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:

·         Demonstrated knowledge and skill in all theories and practices of current Respiratory Therapy

·         Skill in organizing work efficiently.

·         Ability to determine appropriate modes of care when provided with a care plan by physician.

·         Ability to communicate effectively with physicians, nurses, and co-workers.  Listen perceptively to instructions or information.

·         Ability to communicate clearly and effectively in written form.

·         Skill in set-up, monitoring and troubleshooting all Respiratory Equipment.

·         Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with personnel and ancillary medical personnel.

·         Ability to interact humanistically and professionally with a diverse group of patients, visitors, and co-workers and other medical center staff as part of a team.

·         Skill in setting priorities, which accurately reflect relative importance of job responsibilities.  Working independently with minimal direction to achieve optimal results.

·         Ability to perform more than one task simultaneously and respond positively to temporary changes in work schedule.

·         Ability to provide excellent service, promote customer satisfaction, provide quality care and create a positive, progressive and friendly environment throughout the entire UCLA Healthcare Community, while maintaining the confidentiality of patients, their families at all times (i.e., during and after work).

·         Ability to perform the following activities using proper body mechanics.

·         Stand and or walk 75% of the 12-hour work day.

·         Sit, push, kneel, crouch and reach for extended periods of time.

·         Transfer a patient weighing a minimum of 100 lbs. using equipment or with assistance.

·         Lift, push, pull, and carry a minimum of 35 lbs.

·         Commitment to Teamwork and Quality to achieve commons goals and reflecting Enterprise and Department standards, which include accuracy, attention to detail, completeness and timeliness.
