UC San Diego Housing, Dining and Hospitality provides housing and dining services for approximately 19,000 undergraduate and graduate students and their families in more than 400 buildings, covering nearly 10 million square feet. Consisting of eight divisions, HDH has more than 1,000 career employees, 1,200 to 1,300 student employees, and an annual operating budget greater than $250 million.

HDH is a self-supporting department that operates without any federal, state or campus funding. The department receives nearly 90% of its funding from housing and dining services. It also secures revenue from conference and catering services. The goal is to break even.

HDH is in the midst of implementing an aggressive building plan that will added 10,000 new beds in the next 10 years and will almost double our square footage by 2032.

The Residential Experience unit in HDH leads and oversees the planning, development, implementation and success of programs, services, activities and processes for undergraduate students in the university’s living-learning environments. The Residential Life Team within Residential Experience leads the residential student experience and serves continuing and transfer students from all undergraduate colleges who live across three residential communities; the Village at Pepper Canyon, the Rita Atkinson Residences and Pepper Canyon West. Housing over three thousand students, the Residential Life team is critical to enhancing the student experience and increasing student engagement.

Under general supervision, the position is responsible for overall day-to-day functions related to office administration and programming support of The Village at Torrey Pines Residence Life Office. Incumbent establishes and implements policies, procedures, and guidelines for fiscal and office matters pertaining to The Village Residence Life Office in close collaboration with Housing Dining Hospitality. Coordinates and shares judicial/conduct administrative load. Incumbent is advisory to several student organization and advisory groups and assists in various programming such as move in, welcome week and Resident Assistant training. Coordinates and schedules the use of meeting room facilities, and manages the Residence Life webpage and performs general clerical functions

  • Experience with creating and tracking budgets related to programs and events. Experience purchasing goods and services related to programs and events.

  • Ability to organize and meet deadlines in a timely manner, deal with changing priorities and work well under pressure. Skill to coordinate high volume workload with frequent interruptions and conflicting priorities.

  • Ability to develop and organize systems for the management of student information, confidential files, and general office function.

  • Experience with business productivity applications including, but not limited to, Microsoft Word, Power Point, Outlook, Publisher and Excel. Experience with or ability to quickly learn Content Management System (CMS) for website updates.

  • Skill in using general office equipment including laptop, desktop computer, projectors, fax machine, scanner, copy machine, etc.

  • Strong interpersonal and verbal communication skill with the ability to clearly, courteously, and diplomatically communicate information to a diverse group of people (including students, parents, staff, and the community) in person, on the telephone, and via e-mail in a professional manner

  • Ability to work with college students to implement and educational, cultural and social programs.

  • Skill in training and providing work direction to student employees with administrative procedures.

  • Demonstrated ability to exercise independent judgment, discretion, initiative, tact and diplomacy in handling sensitive matters and maintaining strict confidentiality.

  • Ability to work in a team environment, remaining attentive to ideas, recognizing responsibilities, and actively participating with others to accomplish assignments and achieve desired goals.

  • Skill in independently researching, compiling, organizing, interpreting and selecting data and materials from various sources (including online sources). Skill to organize data into forms that are easily understood and logical for easy retrieval and references.

  • Ability to maintain acceptable work habits, demeanor, attention to details, punctuality and regularity of attendance.

  • Job offer contingent upon the successful clearance of a background check.

  • Occasional overtime may be required during opening and closing of residence halls in June and September, including summer session when housed in The Village at Torrey Pines. Overtime needs to be approved by Supervisor in advance.

Mandated Reporter: This position has been identified as a Mandated Reporter pursuant to the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and requires immediate reporting of physical abuse, sexual abuse, emotional abuse, or neglect of anyone under the age of 18. It is the responsibility of the Mandated Reporter to ensure that they obtain proper training in order to fulfill their reporting responsibilities as required by the California Child Abuse and Neglect Reporting Act and University policy, and to complete and submit the required reports to the UC San Diego Police Department without delay.


Pay Transparency Act

Annual Full Pay Range: $33,900 - $70,052 (will be prorated if the appointment percentage is less than 100%)

Hourly Equivalent: $16.24 - $33.55

Factors in determining the appropriate compensation for a role include experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, and other business and organizational needs. The Hiring Pay Scale referenced in the job posting is the budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position. The Annual Full Pay Range may be broader than what the University anticipates to pay for this position, based on internal equity, budget, and collective bargaining agreements (when applicable).
