Posting Context Statement
The Resident Director (RD) is a full-time, live-in professional staff position responsible for the supervision of one residence hall at the University of Idaho.
Position Overview
This position is expected to respond to students in crisis, follow up on CARE (Coordinate, Assessment, Response, and Education) concerns, and engage regularly with residents in their area.
Duties may include:
  • Supervise 8- 20 student staff and one Senior Resident Assistant
  • Provides assistance to residents
  • Advises community council and oversees the facilitation of community development
  • Leads retention efforts in area assigned
  • Serves as a conduct hearing officer
  • Assists with University and departmental recruitment efforts, and performs administrative and managerial tasks associated with the assigned area
  • Work collaboratively in smaller team groups to direct and coordinate various departmental projects
  • Other duties as assigned

Position Qualifications


Required Experience
  • One year leadership experience
Required Education
  • Bachelor’s Degree in Higher Ed, Counseling, Social Work OR four additional years (five total) of leadership experience
Required Other
  • This position will require working some evenings and weekends to meet the needs of the department
  • It is a requirement of this position to live on campus, an apartment in the residence hall is provided

Additional Preferred
Preferred Education:
  • Master’s Degrees in Higher Ed, Counseling or Social Work

  • Residence life
  • Organization, and decision-making
  • Supervising staff
  • Creating and promoting an inclusive community
  • Crisis management
  • Working with college-aged students and fostering student success
  • Managing a variety of projects simultaneously
